And you did well on #11, wandrew!
I believe we have discussed this as much as is needed in a DM. Your points are well taken...but this is very much a tongue-in-cheek thread. I don't believe the intent of the posts were to be insulting of the people of the south. It's an old "joke" that has floated around the internet for a long time with variations on the theme.
Thanks for your private message - that is how disputes with moderators need to be addressed rather than on the forum.

There are plenty of drug addicts throughout the country, -including the rural bible belt. It is a minority everywhere, -but it is not uncommon. Not everyone in the bible belt is churchgoing by any means, -even if most are. And then there is a little thing called sin, -human flaws. Many religious people are addicted, -some find religion to be a cure in time, others don't. The way the world is, -filled with good but HIGHLY imperfect. -Emil.

I too take offense at your sweeping generalizations. I currently reside in the "richest state in the country", Maryland. There are plenty of welfare and social security abusers here too. Just as I'm sure there are many in your native CA too.
With any luck Dakota, your new neighbors will abuse your ignorance like good hillbillies tend to do with your type and you'll turn tail back to CA!

There are mostly good people and still plenty of troubled people and some bad people in EVERY state, -and probably in every country on earth! certainly true here in CA.

Rules of the South
1. Pull your droopy pants up, you look like an idiot.
2. Turn your cap right, your head isn't crooked.
3. Let's get this straight; it's called a "gravel road." I drive a
pickup truck, because I w ant to. No matter how slow you drive, you're
going to get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way.
4. They are cattle; that's why they smell to you. They smell li ke
money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? I-40 goes east and west,
I-65 goes north and south. Pick one.
5. So you have a $70,000 car. We're impressed. We have $250,000 cotton
strippers that are driven only 3 weeks a year.
6. So every person in the south waves It's called being friendly. Try
to understand the concept.
7. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of doves are coming in, we
WILL shoot it out of your hand. You better hope you don't have it up to
your ear at the time.
8. Yeah, we eat catfish & cr awfish. You really want sushi & caviar?
It's available at the corner bait shop.
9. The "Opener" refers to the first day of football season. It's a
religious holiday.
10. We open doors for women. That is applied to all women, regardless
of age.
11. We say "sir and ma'am", "please and thank you", "excuse me and I'm
sorry," when we are wrong or impolite. Do not make the mistake of
thinking it makes us weak. It's just good up-bringing.
12. No, there's no "vegetarian special" on the menu. Order steak. Or,
you can order the Chef's Salad, and pick off the 2 pounds of turkey.
13. When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats,
vegetables, and breads. We use three spices: salt, pepper, and
ketchup! Oh, yeah...We don't care what you folks in Cincinnati call
that stuff you eat...IT AIN'T REAL CHILI!!
14. You bring "coke" into my house, it better be brown, wet and served
over ice. You bring "Mary Jane" into my house, she better be cute, know
how to shoot a gun, drive a truck, and have long hair.
15. College and High School Football are as important here as the
Lakers and the Knicks, and a dang site more fun to watch.
16. Yeah, we have golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards it
frightens the fish, and aggravates the alligators.
17. Colleges? We have them all over. We have State Universities,
Universities, and Vo-techs. They come outta there with an education,
plus a love for God and country, and they still wave at everybody when
they come for the holidays.
18. Don't think that since we talk slow, we think slow. You will be in
for a surprise.
19. We have more folks in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines...So
don't mess with us. If you do, you will get whipped by the best.
20. Turn down that blasted car stereo! That thumpity-thump stuff ain't
music anyway. We don't want to hear it any more than we want to see
your boxers! Refer back to #1 above
|
LOL, Im not from your state, but I must say that was one of the best posts Ive read so far. My wife cant shoot a gun (thank GOD), but I still think we would get along pretty good. Man, I cant seem to get good cat fish in Colorado, and that thumpity thump music........maybe we could use it in interigation for information agains US enemies.

LittleXRed,
I must differ with you on Arkansas on two counts, racism and Friendliness. My wife and I have looked at a lot of different places for retirement and yes, California is one of them and our experience is that Arkansas, at least around Rogers/Fayetteville and Marion/West Memphis had LESS racism than California. While the Cali types talk of tolerance, I also heard the little quips about those "xxxxxx *******s" here. Numerous real estate agents talked about not having problems with the hispanics and 12 people to a house thing that occurs there. In Arkansas, we found subdivisions where whites and blacks lived together, side by side. One African American couple actually came over while we were looking at the house and introduced themselves and started selling us on the good points of living in Marion, Arkansas. I'm sure racism exists in Arkansas, but I can tell you that racism is alive and well in California as well. I know what racism is. I grew up in the Frayer area of Memphis in the 60's. I witnessed first hand the backlash of the minority and the frustrations. I will acknowledge that racism exists today with some people, but no where near the degree it did in the past and no where near what we experienced in other parts of the country searching for a place to retire.
In California, we couldn't get anyone else to talk to us. However, in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina, we discovered folks were friendly to the point of exchanging phone numbers and emails if we had any questions about their corner of the Earth. I like California, don't get me wrong, we just weren't made to feel real welcome there.

I agree
I am fairly new to this forum and came on to find out some info on a certain town in oklahoma and did alot of reading in the oklahoma forums. As for hillbilly60 it seems to me (my opinion only) that the most of you are attacking hillbilly maybe because he is speaking the the truth about most of arkansas. you see I can say what i feel about arkansas because i have lived here in nwa for about 25 yrs or more (lost count) and not bragging either. my parents moved me down here from s calif when i was 14 yrs old and i at the time loved arkansas, while my parents and sister hated it. since then my parents divorced and went there seperate ways and my sister followed my mother. i stayed. what i loved most about arkansas was the people they were so nice and cared for one another i also loved the beauty and still do. Moderator cut: no, no, no...no slurs allowed the arkansas people are rude as heck and don't give a rats ****oty if ya lived or died and extremly negative. the cost of living is high as heck. i could go on and on but i won't. now i am ONLY talking about nwa don't know about other parts and quite frankly don't care. as far as the religous part well i have NEVER had any problem with that but then again im not a religous person persay but i do believe in christ jesus and thats all that counts for me. as for the chickens there fricken NASTY stinkin things that need to be banned. there are poluteing this state and they stink up the air. so nough said about ark but i will say this some of you folks that want to move here to the south chk out oklahoma i have noticed out of ALL the forums okies are the NICEST most caring people you could ever meet. they don't attack you if you give an opinion and they are NOT negative people. i just love em and i intend to move there. now of course people this is my opinion only and i am entitled to that. but because i have lived here for so many yrs and have seen the changes i can say what i see. the only thing that arkansas has going for it is it is beautiful. thats it.

Sunshyne--
I've lived in NW Arkansas for more than 25 years, and things sure have changed. The area has grown a lot, and there are so many more things to do than there used to be. I agree that the Hispanic influx has had a tremendous impact, especially on Springdale and Rogers, but alot of that impact has been positive. Do I like it that there are some places where I go and no one is speaking English? No. But I love many of the restaurants that have been established. If you explore more of the forums, you will find that Hispanic culture is spreading all over the United States. I doubt that Ardmore, OK doesn't have an enclave or two of Central or South Americans. I hope you don't think I am attacking you, because I am not, but just as you have the right to say that you don't like Northwest Arkansas, I can say that it's a beautiful, progressive, economically robust area, and a great place to live.
