I recently got a job in LR and wanting to move my family here soon. I would like a smaller town than LR, so was considering either Benton or Bryant. Can someone please tell me the pros and cons, renting, or purchasing a home, school, crimes? I was "sticker shocked" when I saw the prices of renting here, compared to SE Arkansas.

Any assistance would be grateful.

I've been in Benton\Bryant for 2 years and here is my honest opinion:


Pros -

City is still growing, brand new ballpark is being built, and Taco Bueno just opened. Nice shopping area with Kohl's and Best Buy and a big movie theater down the road in Benton.

Commute back and forth to LR is short, usually 20-30 mins. Rush hour traffic is often fast flowing, but as soon as a wreck happens, things back up quickly.

Schools are highly rated, city is clean and pretty safe.


Cons -

I find the locals to be rude and unfriendly here. Other visiting friends have expressed similiar sentiments.

People don't know how to drive here. Traffic is a nightmare in the city with lots of one way streets and yield signs. Expect to turn your neck 180 degrees a lot.

Basic services are a mixed bag. While lots of choices with doctors and dentists, I find it hard as hell to locate a barber shop and oil change place. (no nice quick lubes around here)
