Hi everyone!
I'm building my family tree for my dad who is 76 yrs old now (still doing great) but I'm really stumped on a town he say's he was born in. My family's roots date back to the 1700's in Arkansas, our last name is Kelley. My great grandfather's name was Giles Augustus Kelley and was born in Pike County. He later died in Delight AR. This is where I'm stumped:
My dad told me he was born at home 1931 and he swears that the town was called Mauldiu. He say's he doesn't remember what major town it was near, and asked if I could find some info on it. We'll I'm hoping there's someone wonderful out there in AR who has the answer, because I'm not having much luck. I can't find a town, or city called Mauldiu, but I think I found Mauldin?
If you know the answer ( as I pray you do ) would you give me info on it?
I'm guessing it's a very small farming town? My family's roots are from farming. Is there a city web-site, or anything I can gather for furthur knowledge?
Thank you and God Bless,

Linda

Maybe he meant Mauldin...wide spot in the road...Montgomery County, south of Pike County...closest big town would be Hot Springs

Magrack is probably correct in calling it Mauldin and it is west of Mt. Ida in Montgomery County, north of Pike County. In 1931 it was a booming sawmill town but a few years later when the timber was all gone they tore everything down and moved it away. The only thing left are a few concrete foundations and the mill pond. I was there not too long ago. Mt. Ida is the County Seat and they have a small museum and some genealogical stuff. It would also help to know when your dad's family moved from there and to where.

There are/were two Kelly clans in Pike County; Dixon/Dickson Kelly, a farmer/ cattle man in Shawmut and one (don't remember his first name) owned a store in Delight. Which do you belong to? Just nosey!
