We returned to Minnesota after spending 10 days in southern MO/ northern AR.

I have to comment on one of the most scenic towns I have seen.
While on a drive from Russellville to Harrison in late afternoon, we came across Jasper nestled way down in a valley.

With the beautifull fall colors and the sun in late afternoon, it was quite spectacular scenery.

Did a lot of " checking areas out" for future relocation.

Besides my familiar favorites ( Harrison , CV, and NWA) I found 3 new ones I liked that were different-------Van Buren, Clarksville, and Batesville.

Jasper is a cute little Ozarks village with the Ozarks Cafe being an historical and fun place to eat. The natives are friendly and the setting beautiful!

Jasper is an interesting little town, and the setting certainly is beautiful. I haven't been there in several years, but I do remember it's beautiful in the fall (most of that region of the state is, really).I also like Batesville reasonably well, but Mountain Home still scores a bit higher on my list due to the lakes. I'm a sucker for the hills and the water, it's hard to find both of them most places.

Jasper is a jewel, and my mom looked around that area for years for a vacation place....could never find anything she could afford, and finally found our cabin in a different, though still beautiful area. We can be in Jasper in a little over an hour from the cabin, and we go every once in a while. One of our favorite hiking trails, Lost Valley, is on the way, as is the Buffalo River (always have to get out at the low water bridge) and the drive from the cabin to Jasper is not boring in even one place.

At the Steel Creek campground (off hwy. 74 going from Ponca to Jasper) you can find the longest (and I think highest?) bluffline on the Buffalo....it is spectacular. When you first catch a glimpse of them on the way in, it takes your breath away. The hiking trail between there and the low water bridge at Ponca is great!

Just north of Jasper on hwy. 7 is a good, simple place to eat....the Daisy Queen. It's in an original, neat old 50s burger joint building. Good burgers and fries, and they also have good beans & cornbread. And homemade pie, if you get there in time. At least it was that way the last time I was there, which, granted, has been a few years (probably 3)....we were in Jasper going around to all our old haunts (we used to stay in the Parkway, which has closed down), and we decided to run up to the DG to eat....they were closed...I think it was a Monday and that they are closed on Mondays. They also close down in the winter time. Don't care much for the Ozark Cafe....overpriced and not that good, but it does have good local atmosphere.

I always find something interesting at Emma's Museum of Junk!

I'd love to be in Jasper today. My mom was there last week, and she said she had forgotten how beautiful it was around there.

The food may not be wonderful but a half pound burger with your choice of any one of three types of French fries (regular, curly or fresh cut) for $3.75 is decidedly not over-priced. I'd gladly pay double that just for the atmosphere which is like good seasoning on the food!

Good, maybe they've lowered their prices since I was there....they needed to!
