We aren't really sure that we will be moving to Arkansas. We are also looking in the southern Missouri area also.

I think before we make that final purchase we are going to look at Neosho. It is so close to the OK and AR boarders, seems like a really pretty little town (pictures only) and seems to offer good housing at a reasonable price.

Heard it on Paul Harvey this morning, also read about it in our paper. Why would you say something like it may have been a Mexican Illegal? sounds to me more like a NUT period regardless of his nationality or legal status.

I was reading this thread, wondering what the heck is so special about Whattaburger and then I read your post. What is different about the Whattaburger in Russellville?
BTW, I lived in Danville many, many moons ago. I like Arkansas, very much. I was too young then to appreciate it, but I had a job with Arkla Gas (do they still exist?) and drove a pickup all over Western Arkansas to each of those dehydration units sprinkled over that part of the state. It was an easy job, and I was pretty much all to myself. I had beautiful scenery, quiet time to myself, and a good boss. I eventually quit because of the solitude and boredom. What can I say, I was young, and stupid...
I couldn't appreciate it then, but I'd give my right arm to have a job like that now - if it paid enough to make the mortgage.

Let' stay on topic, please...
I believe this thread started out with why we love Arkansas and hamburgers, not shootings in adjoining states. Please post in the appropriate forum....pick the state forum, or for controversial statements on resident status, go to the top of the page, click U.S. Forums, and scan down the page until you find the Politics and Other Controversies column and post there.
Thanks. This is a section for relocating and asking questions, not the appropriate platform for some of the things brought up. I appreciate your cooperation.

I dunno what's so special, but everyone who comes through this neck of the woods goes to Feltner's Whattaburger - seems to be what Russellville is known for!
Ark La doesn't exist - they are Centergy or something like that, located in Louisiana (?) - don't know that either, I have my bill drafted!
Solitude and boredom get more precious as we get older, don't they? LOL!

might move back to rsvl!
This was so great to read! We lived in Russellville for the first 5 years of our marriage (hubby was from there), and then moved back here to PA, the suburbs of Philadelphia, b/c his job shut down and I was missing family, had my son, etc. Now, 8 years later, can you believe we have been yearning to go back? I've been reading up to see if we really should. His job here might be going away soon, we're waiting to see what happens. Yep, everytime we visit our old friends are so glad to see us, and YES, we all go to the Whattaburger. My husband and his dad love the Chocolate Dr. Pepper Freeze--back machine. They have this whole lingo for ordering, they've been doing it their whole lives, the practically don't have to even give their order when they know it's Jim Bailey's order! From what he says, they had their Whattaburger way back, and the chain wanted to franchise or something, but they wanted to remain independent, so I guess the chain made their own, thus the different spelling (I think) and menu, etc. Enough about Whattaburger, that was fun.
I don't think I fully appreciated it there before, I was young and really missed my family. But things up here are not so great as people think. It is greatly overpopulated, they build big crappy houses, everywhere, with no yards, and they are not well-built at all. They call them "McMansions" and we live in a tiny townhouse in a crappy neighborhood because that is what we could get here for the same as what our nice brick rancher on old Cove Road with one acre went for. Crime, even out here, is getting pretty bad, and jobs are not so great as they would have you believe. But in the past year and a half I have found myself longing for Russellville, the climate, people, and the closeness of Lake Dardanelle, Bona Dea Trails, Mt. Nebo, etc. Oh, and the Christmas Parade! His dad and grandfather used to run their old Ranchero in it with the Bailey Machine Shop all over it, and we loved it! Trust me, unless you have lots of money and live really, really close to Philly, there's not much for kids to do here either. We were back most recently in April, and yes, it sure has changed, and yes, there are areas that aren't so pretty in town, just like anywhere, but yes, I can get quite a nice place in quite a prestigious neighborhood for what I could sell this house for up here! I have also heard that the Russellville and Pottsville schools are very good. Here there isn't much to do outside. We do have Green Lane Park, but we have to drive about 10-15 minutes to get there, but other than that, not much outdoors to do, unless you are rich and can go play golf all the time. Everything costs money.
I'll admit, moving down there was a bit of a culture shock for me, but it was very endearing, and quite nice. Now I am really missing that, I think the pace was a bit slower there, even though it's a larger town. Here it is crazy go, go, all the time, and everyone is very materialistic. I would love to try to have a garden again, and not walk out of my front door into the street. In Russellville, even if you live in town, you can go to where it is pretty rural in just a small drive.
Anyways, I think the sum of it is, if you like a bit of a slower pace and some of the old-time feeling, Russellville seems to be the place for me. But if you absolutely can't live without your theatre, mega-malls, night clubs, and the other trappings of the life here near a large city like Philadelphia (which I'm even afraid to go for any of that anymore, their murder rate is sky-high), then I would suggest staying in the city. I just can't stand the city life, I guess I'm just not 20-something anymore, I want to be a bit more simple, laide back, you know. Different people like different things, and a viable job will be the stickler for us, but if the right paying job came up for him, I think we'd be there! Go Russellville!
