Otter Creek is a great development - fairly isolated and safe but it is in the 72209 zip code (Southwest LR) which is considered high crime and most of which is unsafe. Many of the nearby stores and restaurants are on Baseline and Chicot in areas that many consider marginally safe. However, I think this has changed some as Bryant has grown and West LR has grown South along I-430. Shackleford Crossing and new developments planned on Col Glenn are getting things closer to Stagecoach and the area is less reliant on the Baseline area.
I would have qualms about living there, but living further north off of Bowman or Kanis costs no more and is more convenient.

We ended up buying a home in Longhills right up the road from Hurricane Lake. Both neighborhoods are considered two of the nicest ones in the area. I loved the lake but we liked the floor plan of the house we bought better than the ones in H.L.. H.L. may be considered prettier due to the lake and higher tree density but Longhills is very well taken care of and looks great. Longhills doesn't have the trailer park running next to it either. Not that there is anything wrong with trailer parks we were just used to stricter zoning in Dallas.
Longhills Golf Course is a fun relaxing course that I don't consider overly challenging. I have not played Hurricane Creek yet but I think it is tougher. As far as living here we are truly enjoying it. It is a complete change from the hustle and bustle of Dallas and all the driving you had to do there just to get things done. Plus you are less than an hour from Hot SPrings, Lake Hamilton and Lake Quachita which is nice for a weekend of fun.

I live in a home in Hurricane Meadows and absolutely love it. It was built by Infinity Homes and is a high quality home. This is one of the best neighborhoods in the area and all of the neighbors are superb!! I would rate it an A+!!

My wife and I drove around the Hurricane Lake area a while back, and I couldn't believe all the stuff that had been built out there. It was unreal. I don't know how far we drove down the road, but we never stopped seeing new houses being built.

My wife and I are seriously considering the Benton/Bryant area but it seems like every nice place is right next to a less than desired area. I looked at Longhills Village and it has nice homes as well but the golf course doesn't do the homes justice in my opinion. The places I saw in in Cabot were the same, only much more $$$$$ for what you get and farther away from the interstate. Anyone know any pros or cons on these areas? Or do you know any other places that are nice in close proximity to Benton/Bryant?

I was born and raised in the Salem community outside of Benton. I visited Hurricane Lake many times when I was young and we also had a family reuinion there, this of course was before Reynolds sold the land around it to developers to build subdivisions there. My aunt and now-late cousin who died of cancer, once lived in that trailer park you were bashing for many years before she got married again, so I consider the park sentimental in many ways, since I visited them there many times. I also played golf at Longhills and swam in their pool growing up. Moderator cut: edit

I wasn't bashing and I am sorry if you took it that way. I was making an observation about the area and the zoning in order to get a feel for its effect on property values and safety. We looked at homes in several areas including H.L.. If we would have found the right house in H.L. we would probably be there regardless of the H.L. Mobile Home Park. I never heard anyone say anything negative about it or its residents. As it happened we are right up the way and we really enjoy it here.

I agree with Sam I Am about Malvern and Otter Creek. We had lived in Malvern for over 40 years and only moved to L.R. for family reasons. Malvern has become a "progressive" community (about 10,000 pop) with new building projects; elementary school, boys/girls club, new water park on the river, good hospital, most needed retail stores but close enough to Little Rock (45 min) and Hot Springs (30 min) for additional choices. Easy access to the Interstate. Also close to the lakes if you are interested in that. Our daughter lived in Otter Creek for several years and only moved to get closer to her daughter's school. At that time they had a very active Community Action Committee, and they also have a good community center/club house. I think either of them would be worth checking out

Infinity Homes is one of the best builders in Benton & Bryant. He built my home and we love it. Wesley has been awesome to work with and everyone I know who lives in an Infinity Home or who has had their home remodeled by Infinity Homes has been more than pleased. I am not sure exactly what issues Basscat had, but I haven't found anyone who wasn't happy.
