Default Mountain Home, Arkansas

We are thinking about moving to Mountain Home, Arkansas area. My spouse is from New York, I'm from the Midwest, and we have lived in Florida for many years. We are retiring. We love a change of seasons, but milder weather. We like boating, kayaking, and hiking. Anyone out there have comments, or recent experience?

Hi Oliver, my wife and I currently live in So. Fl. and we are moving to Mountain Home, Ar area as soon as we can sell our house down here. If this hurricane season is kind to use maybe we can sell this winter.

We spent a week up there last year looking around and I must say it is one of the nicest places in the country I have ever been. If you can handle the Fl humidity then you can handle AR.

The people are friendly, the cost of living is much lower than here and the area is beautiful. Jobs could be a problem depending on what you do for a living. My wife and I are going to start a small farm and live frugally so work isn't an issue for us.

Feel free to contact us at barry@email-solutionz.net if you have any questions.

I live in Cotter- about 15 miles west of Mountain Home, and I work in Mountain Home. Mt. Home is beautiful- lots of access to lakes and rivers. The Job situation definatly should be checked out before you move. Depending on what you do- you may not find work. health care and banking are the two biggest buisnesses here.

The weather is beautiful. As the Previous Poster said- if you can hndle FL's humidity- you will have no problems here. We typically have 2-3 good snowstorms per winter. Winter lasts from Mid November through the end of March. temperatures stay in the low thirties most of winter, dipping below freezing for only a couple weeks. We had sub 0 temperature once last winter (I believe it was only once).

I was in Mountain Home today. While it is a little too crowded for my taste, the people are VERY nice ....

I grew up in MH--the economy hasn't traditionally been very hopping, but it's grown in the past 15 years and has a beautiful campus for the local branch of ASU and is getting a new library, I think. Plenty of lake/river events, caves in the area, pretty place, and very nice people!
