Someone always has to dredge up the California slam. I honestly don't know why its necessary to do so in a discussion of another state/region. They're not comparable in any way and going to LA isn't going to necessarily translate into a greater appreciation of Arkansas. I have a blast every time I go to LA - its a lot of fun as long as your money holds out (which is true of my hometown as well).

With that out of the way, I like Arkansas. My grandparents are from Bigelow and Clinton County in the Ozarks (Dad's side - mom's a native San Franciscan). I've only been there once, but really enjoyed meeting distant relatives and seeing the pretty countryside. Was really impressed with the friendliness of the people.

You are right, there are those who will always blast Ca but read the Ca boards and see what some of them have to say about places like Ar when the subject comes up. I notice one person on the board says he/she left the area to get away from people who love AR, but if my memory serves me right that person admits they never really lived in AR. Oh well, maybe it is time for the moderator to step in here. I think we are getting too carried away with blasting one another or one anothers state.

As for you comments, I am glad you enjoyed your visit to AR, yes, it is very pretty with many truely friendly people. I will add the east and southern part of the state are very diffeerent from the NW part.

Correction on where we went on that trip. The town was Clinton and the county was Van Buren.

NWA is more populated, offers more services, and has many more job opportunities.

Here in north central, and to the south, it's John Wayne, Johnny Cash, and John Deere.

Agreed. Demographics tend to be a reflection of the very different economies of the different parts of the state, which gives it a totally different feel. Terrain, amenities, and even weather are also pretty different when comparing NW and SE AR for example, but there's a pretty large difference between even North Central and the southern part of the state (once again, likely due to economy differences). I'm not claiming any particular area is "better" than another, they all have their pros and cons, but for no bigger a state than Arkansas is, there is a lot of variability from one region to another.

I agree. I have lived in NWA, Central, and Eastern where I know reside and was born and raised. Never explored the southern part of the state though. I know there are better parts to Arkansas than the Delta, but with all of its troubles, I love it. NWA is beautiful, as is the Little Rock area. I just have never been to the lower portion other than Monticello, but it wasn't an exploration trip so I can't say much about it.
