Default prescott, arkansas

Prescott is a charming little town. It is fairly close-knit AND Southern! It holds several small events throughout the year (fall festival, halloween carnival, christmas shopping)

The closest hospital is in Hope (medical park hospital) however there is a hospital clinic in prescott. The hospital in Hope is adequate although most who have a choice, go to Arkadelphia (45 minutes east on I-30) or Texarkana Ark/Tex (45 min west on I-30) where more modern larger facilities are located. The closest shopping Mall is in Texarkana also. For major shopping, Little Rock is the best bet with several malls to choose from. Hope this helps you some.

Prescott
Is right off I-30
Actually for shopping ect..better to go to Hot Springs or Little Rock same distance from LR as to Texarakana..which is less than an hour away..
Same with good hospitals Hot Springs(closest) Little Rock, or Texarakana..there is one here off I-30 at Arkadelphia..two colleges here Ouachita Baptist Un. or Henderson State both good schools..
Agriculture base...race horses, cattle...wholesome ..
Depends what you want in life style..It is southern as the previous poster stated...

What agriculture resource in the area, and is there any residential / commercial construction growth potential?

I am from Prescott and most of my family is still there, in the rural areas. So I go back often.
Would I want to live there? ABSOLUTELY NOT! There is nothing there. No businesses, no commerce, no jobs. The town needs a good 'cleaning-up', badly.
The only thing for local kids to do is ride around on the weekends. What happens to kids who ride around on weekends with nothing to do? They wind up at the gravel pits for a big party.

I moved my children out of the area to give them a better chance, a better education, and a better life.
It used to be a quaint little town with a lot of possibility. Unfortunately, after years of our city council members voting down any chance of anything good coming to our town, colleges, etc... they finally killed it. They didn't want 'outsiders' coming in, might increase the crime rate...go figure. I-30 contributed to that also in 1972. People started bypassing Prescott.
I can't count the number of times my vehicle has been broken into, they are quite expert at it there. My in-laws lived in a quiet part of town, how many times I have looked up to see someone standing there looking in the window during dinner? Many. They also owned a business. It was vandalized so many times, they finally shut it down after 68 years of business.

I get caught up on the news when I go back, it always consist of someone being killed as a result of crime, home intrusions, rape, beatings, theft...the list goes on.
It is very depressing and sad. I can't imagine anyone wanting to move there. Especially anyone with children. My recommendation to anyone moving there is to get locks, a large mean dog, some way to protect yourself and get started on some anti-depressants.
It is terrible to talk of your own home like this, but it is the sad truth. I don't even go into town if I don't have to. It mostly consists of tired looking second hand shops, a couple of banks, Potlatch, a couple of convenience stores, two nursing homes, empty buildings and a feed store. I almost forgot, you can "Christmas shop" at Fred's Dollar Store. Thats it, unless you want second hand.
It breaks my heart to see the town I spent so many years in come to this. My family goes back many generations in that area.
There is no constructional growth that I can see, maybe a new cluster of chicken houses. And I go back to visit on a pretty regular basis. Population goals?? A consistant 5000 maybe. It is a poor area.
Now, if your into rehabbing properties, and have lots of cash and patience, Prescott is your place. However, you are going to have some serious problems with comps in the area.
I'm told that the utilities are sky-rocketing in the city limits, so much so that the local grocery store had to shut down recently. Another empty building...
There is nothing "charming" about Prescott anymore. There is nothing left in Prescott anymore.

Default possible alternative

If you don't have to be in Prescott, but just in the general area, consider living in Magnolia. It is a beautiful little town with no mall but a vibrant, healthy downtown shopping area, two excellent small animal vet clinics and one large animal clinic, wonderful residential areas, four thriving banks, a nice university, world championship steak festival, ... lots to recommend it. Visit removed for additional information.

Ilove Prescott is on a distinguished road
Default Prescott, AR

This post may be late but I wanted to defend Prescott, AR. I read one post where the writer says that the crime rate is bad...Killings, people looking in his windows, car robbery etc...It's simple not true...Yes, we have crime just like any other town but not near as bad...I'm 41 and have NEVER been robbed or had any trouble whatsoever...We are a small town but we do have good values...There are job opportunities with Firestone, Potlatch, several other companies have come or are coming to town, such as a motorcycle co., concrete sculpture (yard decorations), Firestone has added a new rubber plant...And also our grocery store did not close down due to a high light bill...Yes, the light bill did get high but did not close the store, it did however change ownership...Since then the light company has had some reconstruction and has had no problems with high utilities that I'm aware of...I agree we need more jobs, stores etc...All in all, Prescott is a small town, charming, everyone knows everyone, family is the most important thing we have...As for hospitals, I go to Arkadelphia, the Baptist hospital there is really good or I go to Texarkana to St. Michaels...And as for shoping I enjoy shopping at Texarkana, they have a mall and tons of other stores such as Old Navy, Goodys, Lane Bryant, etc...Anywho, if your moving here for a job offer I say yes we are a great town, if your coming to find a job, then jobs are harder to find but we have them you just have to search for them...Good Luck...

I am from Ark. and lived in Pcity from '73-'80. Compared to now that was boomtime, we even had a gibsons dept. store and at least 4 clothing stores.
The town was pretty much dead then and is much worse now. No progress in any way has been achieved but the usual rot that time brings is apparent everywhere. My experience in prescott was mostly bad. The cops favorite activity is harrassing teen-agers and sitting on their backsides. The school system is a joke. If even 1 of 10 were literate prescott might have had a chance in the past to experience a little positive growth. The opportunities have been there.
Moderator cut: edit The few who do have money run the town govt. as if it was their personal social club.
There are in fact, some good people in the area but generally they are hidden in the woodwork because they "don't want any trouble".
In short, I am now 50 years old and have lived in many different areas of this great country and prescott was by far and away the worst experience of my life. I would almost recommend a 3rd world country before this god forsaken little burg.
If you end up their watch your back.
