Weiner, Arkansas
Ok, so I was bored, as I am always... And started to look at my heritage... my last name is Weiner (Not Wiener as associated with Weener or PP's) as in Y-Ner or what most would think of as Whiner... lol... any gahoo, did a google and found:
Weiner, Arkansas
http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=Weiner,+AR
http://www.city-data.com/city/Weiner-Arkansas.html
Is this a joke, or is there really this place? And is it really a mistake to be Weener Ark, or is there a relative, I don't know about that established a town there??? Or is it one street? or a city, town??? Any info would be cool...
I'm in California, and what a hoot it would be to travel to name sake town, find others with that name there...
anyhelp, thanks.

Yes, there really is a Weiner, AR. It is over toward Jonesboro in the northeast part of the state. My high school played Weiner HS in basketball sometimes. I'm thinking they got consolidated though, but not sure. It has a population of 760, so pretty dang tiny. I'm not sure if it is named after a family or anything like that.

Absolutely!!
There is definitely a Weiner, AR. I assume the name comes from the heavy German population that settled here.
The previous person who replied was wrong about consolidation. We still have our school.
I've lived here all of my life and it is a very neat little town. Very family-like community. Celebrate together, grieve together, etc.
Our annual "Rice Festival" occurs the second weekend in October. This is a farming community.

There isn't anyone in the phone book with the last name of Weiner. I believe from what I read that it was named because of hte large German population. It still has a large German population from the last names. I moved here about 6 months ago, and have found all my neighbors to be nice, friendly people. It is famous for its yearly Rice festival. It has a good school system that is under the threat of consolidation, but so far the schools have been able to stay open. Everyone looks out for each other and are the nicest people as a whole, I have ever met.

How long have you lived in Weiner?
I used to live in Weiner, AR from 1957-1959. I started first grade there. My father was the minister at the Christian Church there. His name was Jack G. Taylor. My mother was Ruth and my brother was Terry, sadly they have all passed away. Is the parsonage still there behind the Church? I was so young, I don't remember much of the town.
Thanks.

The name comes from a guy that worked on the railroad who's last name was Weiner. The town was oringinally named West Praire or something like that. My dad's uncle's family are the ones who founded the town and name it West Praire but people called it Weiner because of the guy that worked on the railroad. I think a Weiner family lives in Memphis.

Hi DJ Weiner Teazer! I sure do appreciate your tight DJ name. I am wondering if you could provide a link to any music that you have produced. I am a fellow Weiner and always take the opportunity to connect with like Weinerfolk. If you do not have any phat tunes available at this juncture, at least you could do me the honor of posting your picture or a picture of your choosing. Goodbye sweet Weiner.
