ACCCKKK.....you moved onto my next fear, spiders that bite...or maybe it's just spiders with hair....and I agree, research and understanding are better than anything else, at least that's what I tell people about Rottweilers!....I'm scared of high open places, but I want to skydive, go figure....at my age I'd probably just break a hip and be the laughingstock of the orthopaedic ward...

Lighten up. It was a simple suggestion. And yes, why live with a fear if there is a cure? A phobia is a crippling thing to have, I can vouch for that. I used to lose sleep over the sight of a spider in my bed.

Let me ask you this: why is there such a huge fear of spiders and snakes? I can tell you that its because of lack of knowledge/understanding. What better than to understand something to lose a phobia? I look back at how afraid I was and laugh, its a good feeling!

Me too, but I divorced that particular black widow.

That was a joke...never been divorced....just trying to inject some lighthearted humor.

Maybe I could suggest you lighten up as well. I mentioned she meant the phobia statement partly as a joke as well. I am not saying she has no phobias, but I don't think she expected you the take it the way you did.

I am sure you are correct about the fear of spiders and snakes, I also don't think much will change the minds, no matter how much education we get, at our ages. If we were young kids or young adults maybe.

As I said, you have your hobby which seems quite fasinating but I will keep mine and do not include handling snakes or hunting and playing with tarantulas. BTW, I have no problems with tarantulas. No I do not play with them but I do enjoy watching them. The ones we had in CAlifornia were so big you could see them crossing the street.

Thats cool.

Besides, I wasnt using this topic to display my hobby, but rather as a tool to show that spiders/snakes/etc are usually docile enough to pick them up, right out of the wild. No reason to really be afraid once you get past all the wives tales.

I don't like spiders that bite, I don't like snakes and I don't like bees either, (of course I wouldn't kill a bee) as for sky diving, I will leave that to the younger set, like grandkids. I have a granddaughter that did go sky diving once. She said she was bruised from one end of her butt to the other. would she do it again? She says yes, has she?

Ya'll going to start a fight over this thread?

If you are, let me know and I'll go make some popcorn.

Steve-o is in Chicago, and nmnita is in New Mexico and you're fussing about spiders and snakes in Arkansas.

Anyone else see the humor in that?...or is it just me?

Years ago a wise old man told me if you kill the good snakes, the bad snakes will come in to take their place. If a poisonous snake is threatening you (highly unlikely) then kill it, but don't just kill every harmless snake you see. Don't have junk around the house, mow the grass short, and get some cats to take care of the rodents that attract snakes.

I always jump in on the spider/snake/scorpion threads, because that my thing.

Wanna see the real humor? It takes an Illinoisan to school an Arkansasan about their own wildlife. People shooting and hacking innocent snakes? Not cool.
