Red face SPUDNUTS in El Dorado

I am originally from El Dorado, spent the first 18 years of my life there, and was wondering if anyone has been to the Spudnut Shop lately. If you are wondering what a Spudnut is, it's basically a doughnut made from potato flour and when they are still hot with all that sugar glaze dripping off them, there is nothing better. My third cousin used to own the place and now I believe it's owned by another distant relative-in-law.

I also miss the burgers at Lipsey's.

Sorry, just stuck here in Omaha reading the Arkansas threads and had a craving, missing the good old days.

I never lived in El Dorado, (I live in Houston now), but my Grandmother lived a block from the Spudnut shop over off of College street I think. They were always a "must have" every time we were there.

Aren't they some sort of chain, albeit a small one? Its funny I was thinking about them the other day, driving past one of the closed down Krispy Kremes, (Krispy Kreme closed all their locations in Houston, don't know why, not like they couldn't make it in fat city USA!) and I couldn't help thinking, "I wish they would open a Spudnut shop in their place!"

Yes, it is a chain but the one in El Dorado is the only one that I know of that is not in California. I lived in St Louis for many years and thought of opening a Spudnut shop there. I called my cousin in El Dorado and got the address of the home office and wrote to them but I cannot remember where in California they were. They sent back franchise information but I never got around to doing anything because I work full time (not for long now) and decided I did not want to have a business that I could not devote my full time to, plus nowadays it is hard to find someone to run it that you can trust.

The Spudnut Shop is now on Faulkner St in El Dorado and there may be one in Magnolia. Every time I go back to visit my Dad I have to get by there for a dozen.

I just found this website with Spudnut locations. There are more than I realized. Maybe one is near you.

Want Some Spudnuts?

My Mom was from El dorado and always talked about Lipsey burgers and spudnuts. I believe she graduated class of 1959.
