Well, strumpeace, since you felt I was having a "tirade' and needed to get a grip, I figured I would see what some of your nice, constructive criticism was like.....You had a few"nice" posts, but a couple of things I don't quite understand. When you commented on IncognitoBlue, you said, "Good Post". He mentioned in his post that there has been a mass exodus from Memphis to Miss. because the white east memphians couldn't accept who was running the city....But, when packinup mentioned the mass exodus from the "Bluff City", you sarcastically called it "suburbanization" that has been going on for 30 years....So which one is it? Incognito's opinion or your theory on suburbanization? As far as I can see, you have helped a few people find information--very commendable; but you think those of us who have made negative comments, some of which you have mistakenly missed the points, in order to find out why the city is in the state it is in, you have no problem being negative and don't offer any constructive suggestions on what could be done to help this city. In fact, while you read misjudged comments, you have no trouble criticizing anyone stating facts....for example the person from Oregon...you said that those people are known for being meth heads and live in trailer parks! Meth heads are everywhere...haven't you noticed that the drugstores and grocery stores had taken cold meds off the shelves until manufacturers took out the main ingredient from cold pills to make meth.? As far as trailer parks.....Please look around you....almost every state has trailer parks (maybe vermont doesn't....never saw any up there, but they could have been hidden!)....and...well nevermind.....

Default I am an Arkansan

I have lived in Arkansas most of my life. Unlike most other Arkansans, I am a liberal person with a very open mind. With that said, I LOVE THIS STATE! I love the people here. Most people in Arkansas do have that "Southern Hospitality" you always hear of.

I enjoy telling the story about going to Louisiana for a week to visit my grandmother. After a long trip and even longer flight(I was only 17 so I couldn't drive myself mom made my brother and I fly), we bumped into a lady at the airport. I excused myself and apologized for bumping into her and she said excuse me and apologized for bumping into me. Not a single soul on my entire trip had done that. If they bumped into me, they just continued walking. No apologies, no "excuse me". I asked if she was from Arkansas, sure enough, she was.

In every state you will have ingnorance, racisim, sexism, religious fanatics, and proud Americans. This is not unique to Arkansas.

While we are on the topic of religion and being patriotic I must ask two questions. 1. Why is it so bad for someone to be proud of where they are from? 2. Why is it terrible for us to stand up for beliefs?

I have beliefs that differ from most here in the Bible Belt. My husband and I even differ on a lot of political and religious subjects. Yet, we all respect each others opinions and for the sake fo being hospitable, agree to disagree.

I must say Ms. Benes, you are wrong about Arkansas. I hope that you will one day give us another chance.

aglgbgll, you are so right. Southern hospitality is alive and well in Arkansas. I chose to live here and the friendly atmosphere is the main reason I do so!

Somewhere in this thread where I saw where someone posted that if you were Baptist and lived in Ark. it was thought you'd go straight to hell if you voted democratic? I've never heard anything so absurd in my life! I live in a community that is probably 50% Baptist and here it's just the opposite! If you want to win an election here, you'd better be a member of the democratic party!

I Am Sorry You Feel This Way About Arkansas.it Is A Beautiful State With Some Of The Friendliest People That I Have Ever Known.i Was Born In Camden So You Could Say I Am Prejudist. But To Tell The Truth I Have Lived All Over The Country. If You Come To Ark. All The People Ask Of You Is That You Respect Their Privacy, property, and Religion,oh And Most Of All Respect Their Women. Arkansas Men Are Very Protective Of Family.we Don't Like People To Make Fun Of Us Because Of Things We Do Or Say Or How We Talk.we Have A Lot Of People From Other States That Come Here To Retire And They Are Very Welcome Because We Know What Kind Of State We Have And We Are Proud Of It. And The People That Move Here Are Always Telling Us How Much Friendlier We Are Than People In The States Where They Come From. I Am Sorry If You Didn't Like It Here But You Must Have Done Or Said Something To Turn The People You Met Into What You Said . May God Bless You Anyway And Help You Understand How To Treat People So You Will Be Welcomed Somewhere Else.

Excuss Me !!!!!but Who Do You Think You Are ? I Have Lived All Over This State It Is My Home I Was Born Here And There Isn't One Part Of This State That Is Any Better Than The Other Except That Some People Were Raised With More Manners Than Others . Most Of The People In This State Were Raised To Treat People With Respect But Only If They Earned That Respect By Being A Good Person.which From The Things You Wrote You Weren't Raised That Way.

My bad.
Hot springs and eurika springs are a bit more open to be tolerant.
I used to enjoy going to Casinos, but with them changing to cards no coins on machines, and Profits just going to larger corps rather than locals, i am not so sure of them. Its like the Walmart issue - Good or Evil, i noticed personally a local Fabric Shop go out , then Walmart got rid of many of the items in the Fabric dept offered. SO Locals suffered. Maybe we need to think deeper before we so easy accept , Long term ,rather than short term gains.
We moved from a very large Metro area to rural Arkansas, and have had more good things happen to and for us,than where we came from. I find a charm in the 'Ol Timers here, with a lot of wisdom to learn from . This person from Oregon should visit and then realize what a great state of Arkansas has to offer. Sometimes its better to listen with two ears and eyes, than rattle off like a Magpie . Best Wishes,

Has it ever crossed anyone's mind that some Arkansas people don't want the 'world' at their door?

That's not stupidity. It all depends on what rule book your going by.

So maybe you should take your money where they want it and are begging for it and your lifestyle that you bring with it.

But most of the town didn't want it. I would rant at my Mom, "how could they not want a big new library?" They are idiots, so backward, blah, blah, blah.

My, now 87, year old Mother calmly told me if I wanted a big new library we should have never left and should go back to Jackson!

Not to move into somewhere else and try to make it something else.

I swear that was one of the biggest lesson's of my life.

Smile Southern Hospitality

I have lived here for less than a year, so I am no expert on the subject, but I have found Arkansas to be rather delightful. I currently have a mile walk to work each morning through Rogers by a very busy street. I have not been run over, called names hooted or hollered at in the four weeks I have been walking to and from work. You cannot say that about most other places in this world.
