Angry Calling All Arkansas Dog Lovers!

Today in the Demcrat Gazette there was an article about a home in Sebastian Co. where animal control officers found 114 dogs with starving and without food at an abandoned kennel in Bloomer. Approximately 30 of them are past help but the AC is asking for a court order to remove the dogs from the property since it appears the "owners" have taken flight. Bloomer is on the north side of Ft. Chaffee, up around Lavaca and east of Ft. Smith. The dogs that are not euthanized will receive medicdal treatment and checked for heartworms, and those that are able will be put up for adoption. They will also be spayed and neutered prior to adoption.

Sebastian County Animal Control and the Humane Society are on the scene, providing medical care, food, and water. It is not known when the dogs will be ready to be adopted, but if/when the court order is issued, they dogs will be moved to the Humane Society shelter in Ft. Smith.

Please - if you are considering a shelter dog and are in this area, please do what you can to help. I feel sure donations of food or money for health care would be gratefully accepted by the Humane Society.

Here's the link to their website - if anyone can help, it's the people of Arkansas. This is a black eye for our state.....but soon there will be about 80 new dogs that need a home. There are some pups, but the conditions were so appalling that one female had eaten her pup in an effort to stay alive...mostly these are fully grown dogs, or at least not little puppies.

Sebastian County Humane Society

If you live in Sebastian County, contact animal control - I'm sure there's a place to petition the courts for an immediate seizure order, I just haven't located it yet. Very, very sad....and fortunate that only two dogs died from heat and lack of food and water in this heat wave.

Sam,

These kinds of stories make me sick. I just don't understand people. Why would anyone have so many little creatures and not take care of them? Obviously, regardless of the reasons, they are sick, themselves.

I know these stories need to be told, yes, people should consider donating what they can to their local humane society, or shelter. It is also important to think about adopting from the shelters or, if you have a favorite type of dog, contact the breed rescue service closest to where you live.

Texas Dog Love is on a distinguished road
I was blessed to adopt one of the 114 dogs that made it. She was in rescue care from August 2007 until she was released to me in October 2008! While under the care of the rescue group, she had to have 23 teeth pulled, treatment for both heartworms and erlictia and spayed. She is perfect...and when I look into her sweet eyes, I can not imagine someone mistreating her. My heart aches for her painful past. But she has a loving Forever Home now. Thank you rescue group!

thanks for letting us know how, at least survived and has found a truely loving home. I just can't imagine how anyone can do something like that to helpless creatures..

Me too and was really disappointed. The only reason I knew it was old, was I had posted and I knew I certainly haven't been posting a lot in the past few days cause we have had company.
