1. Great education system (three small children) Also, a great university (for me)
2. Prefer not to live in a busy city (more countryside, but close to city)
3. Economically stable (ECONOMY SUCKS HERE IN N. MS)
4. Cost of living not too crazy
5. Maybe close to ocean (haven't decided)
6. Diversity (my children are half black/white)

((among other things))

I was going to suggest NWA, specifically Fayetteville. Then I got to your #5--maybe close to ocean. From F'ville, you're ~12 hours from the Gulf.

Perhaps some place in Florida where you could be closer to the beach. I also thought of the Charleston, SC area...public schools there are really being challenged. Economy is somewhat stable with Boeing opening a new plant; cost of some goods can make living there more expensive.

My first suggestion would be to find your college or university and then go from there.

By posting in the Arkansas forum and wanting to be near the ocean, i guess it's safe to assume you aren't studying geography in school?

When I was in the US the economy sucked just about everywhere.

The only places I know of that are really doing great are Australia, Switzerland, here in Bangkok, and I think Montana was doing well.
I think it would depend a lot on what kind of work you are capable of doing. Fort Smith, Jonesboro, and Little Rock have been getting into wind turbines if thats something that interests you. If you like making coffee then maybe go with the northwest.

Ocean front property in Ft.Smith? Well. I guess the Arkansas River is sort of wide running thru the valley.

Mainly only good for transport and catfish, you can't swim in it because of the undertows. During the right season you can snag paddlefish (if you know what you are doing) and the eggs are supposed to be like decent caviar.
