Default Why does Jonesboro, AR have 4 school districts?

It's a town of around 70,000?

Nettleton, Valley View, and Westside have not always been part of Jonesboro. As Jonesboro grew they voted to be absorbed into the city of Jonesboro.

It is strange considering that Pulaski County has a population of 400,000 and only three school districts. I guess keeping their school district was part of the compromise in order for Nettleton, Valley View, and Westside to be annexed into Jonesboro.

Not at all. The consolidation of school districts was never discussed as a condition of annexation, and all three districts have met the minimum size requirements under the past two statewide school consolidations efforts.

Having lived in Jonesboro and a JHS graduate, here's my theory -- parents in the other three districts are "afraid" of their children going to school with what they perceive as the "undesirables" in the Jonesboro district. Plus, they hilariously think that Jonesboro High School is too big.
