Mt Ida
Any thoughts on what Mount Ida is like as a place to live? My family of 4 (2 little ones) want to go there and see for ourselves but I would like to get an idea about the place from others who have been there recently or live there now. Thanks.

I have never lived there but have passed through many times. In case you were wondering, Mt Ida is SMALL, did I say SMALL. If that is what you are looking for you will love it. It is very scenic and close to Lake Quachita, 2nd cleanest lake in USA according to EPA. Probably about an hour's drive to Hot Springs where you would have shopping, dining, etc. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I knew it was small which is what we want but the hour's drive for shopping is a bit far. I think we will look to something no more than a half hour from the shops. Have seen a place online in Jessieville so will look into that too.

Jessieville might be a bit better, it is very close to Hot Springs Village (where I am going to retire) and there is pretty good shopping around there.

I once stayed in Mt. Ida for a week and it was 35 miles to Hot Springs.
It took me a little over half an hour to get to Hot Springs.
I'll be in Murfreesboro in Sept. If I have the time, I'll run over to Mt. Ida.
I'd like to see if it's changed since I was there over 10 years ago.
However, of course, it would depend on where you lived in Mt. Ida.
I was on the side toward H. S. when I drove to H.S.
From center to center it would be closer to an hour, and on the far side, so to speak, of Mt. Ida it would naturally be more than an hour.
So, you see, you can't determine that sort of thing until you go look at real estate.

During the fall at Mt.ida is my fav. I just graduated from there and the views and cool, and football rules mtida on friday nights. SO Jessieville might have the little shops and such, but if i wasnt in collge id be there. love it. youd always have a "home" at mt ida. Good law enforcement, state trooper prescnce...just a good place to live and bring up kids.

Mt Ida, even from the west side is only about a 35 to 40minute drive to Hot Springs. My husband commutes to Hot Springs everyday, the drive really isn't that bad. I have lived here for 5 years and if you want a small charming town, I am sure you will love it. I am moving, but it is for the love of the southwest part of our country (mountains, etc..), not because Mount ida is awful by any means. It is a good place to raise a family, since we are small, very little crime, and very close to the lake, river, and situated in the Ouachita National Forest. Class sizes in the school are small.

Heading to Mt Ida next week myself. Lovely small town, can't ask for a more beautiful setting IMO. I am looking to buy land there for when I retire. I am also a rockhound so that angle doesn't hurt either BTW how is the flooding affecting Mt. Ida, I am a little nervous about heading up there due to that right now?

I agree with the sentiments of others, Mt Ida is just a little over half an hour from Hot Springs, no further.
