Default weather

the temp here in victorville ca gets down to 19 degrees with a few days of ice & snow in the winter (not on the street tho, only in street gutters and puddles) and up to 120 in the summer, but it's very dry, almost no humity (10% or so) it is not the sticky type heat..my two concerns about arkansas weather : is the high heat and humity combined which makes it sticky hot weather...and the "bugs" i heard there are a lot of flying bugs like mosquitoes and such..

Certain parts of Arkansas, do have bugs and mosquitos throughout the year, especially in the Delta and some Central Areas.

The Northwest Arkansas Area has never had a mosquito problem since I have lived here for 24 years. The heat can get pretty high in the summer months though.

Actually, that's not a lot. It's just that you're so used to living in a desert climate. You do have to be careful not to buy in a low lying area that might be subject to flooding.

Default Schools in Springdale

Sounds like you have lived and know about Arkansas. What do you think of the Springdale school systems? Do a lot of people send their children to private or are the public schools good there?

I'm a young professional who will be relocating to Bentonville. Can anyone give me the scoop?
- What's a good area to live that's young? I don't mind families but I'd like to be where I can meet other young prof.
- What is there to do?
- Whats the weather like in Jan-Mar?
- Anything else I should know?

Hi Susie Q,
Happy to see someone on this site who knows Arkansas. I live in New Hampshire...love New England but want to live in a warmer climate. In essence, take NH to a warmer, less expensive place. We are looking at Mountain Home but read that it is extremely humid and one person wrote that her aunt has copperheads in her yard. Not inviting. So, where in Arkansas can a yankee find low priced homes (as compared to NE) comfortable climate, welcoming people (we're retirement age but do not want golf etc.) attractive town center and higher educated population.
Thanks,
Kate G

Default Tri-Lakes area...

I field this one....Mountain Home is a great town! I've lived in the tri-lakes area about all my life. Summers can get pretty warm. It's seldom above 100 degrees, but eighties and nineties are quite common. Bugs have never been an issue here.

To answer your question about copperheads--a lot of people come here to get away from city living, so they find a spot out in the wooded countryside on a lake or river and build a home. I did the same thing. The first year I found 3 or 4 copperheads hangin around, maybe one the second year as well. Since then we haven't seen any more. Once you have an actual lawn and have things picked up, the snakes will find a better place to live.

In town, they'll never be an issue
