Arkansas and I
I am thinking about moving to Hots springs village in the future. I saw the tv commerical and researched it. I know there are exisiting houses there for great prices along with all the amenities that giant community has to offer. Does anyone have any opinons or information on HS village and the HS area.
I am a new yorker ( by living arrangements not by heart) how would I be accepted ( my family?) are there jobs in the field of developemental disabilites in this area or in communting distance?
Thank you for your time.

The only time I've been in The Village is to play golf, but my impression of the place is that it is full of old, retired people, that are afraid to drive over 10 miles an hour on the highway. Honestly I didn't see a single person in the village that wasn't at least 60 years old. I don't know your age, and I don't mean to offend anyone. I just call em like I see em. It's a very pretty community and very secure with gated entrances and they're own police department. I think the house prices are relatively high compared to the surrounding areas, but I assume you get a lot of amenities.
Hot springs on the other hand is a pretty cool town. I love all the nearby lakes and mountains. There's lots of shops on the downtown strip and a cool historic distrct. But for this reason, Hot Springs is a tourist mecca and can make navigating the streets extremely frustrating. maybe I can help you more if you have more specific questions.

Hello NY,
I have a home in in Bella Vista (NW Arkansas). It is a Cooper Industry village, as is Hot Springs Village, Cherokee Village and others. They were originally built for retirees but we have seen a large influx of families over the past ten years or so.
I've been to Hot Springs Village -- looking to buy there later perhaps. Even though I've not spent a vast amount of time there, I can tell you that it is precisely the same setup as Bella Vista. It is a beautiful village with a much smaller population than Bella Vista (BV). BV passed 25,000 recently, whereas Hot Springs Village (HSV) is about 6,000. I like the fact that HSV is smaller. Northwest Arkansas is filling up with people so quickly that it's not quite as desirable to me as it use to be.
Back to BV and HSV. These communities are no longer thought of as simply retirement villages as they are filling with young couples now. In BV, I know the elderly and the young and while in HSV, I talked to some young couples. Nice young folks; I liked them. By the way, they said the loved the village. A mixture of age groups is reality and it's great.
Would you feel welcome amongst Southeners? Well, not unlike youl, we tend to be fairly nice folks and don't bite. Also, it might interest you to know that a large percentage of people in these villages are from the north. They want the mild winters and warm climate. They also love the low property taxes and being in close proximity to so many great activities. This includes boating and fishing on the seven lakes. There are also seven golf courses, country clubs all over the village, swimming pools, hiking/biking trails, restaurants, horse back riding. I can't even remember all the available activities. Oh yes, there are clubs organized for about anything you might enjoy. BV has an incredible computer club. I also belonged to the photography club and a poet group. That's when I found that old folks can be pretty hip. Humans are human, no matter what age. In both these communities, I found wonderful, intellegent and friends and neighbors.
Now, looking in from the outside, some may be biased about the elderly, but I find them so refreshing and more hip than you might think. Guess I'm just old enough to enjoy their wisdom, zippy personalities and steadfast friendship. It's a joy and a privilege to know them.

Elderly
I couldnt agree more. I lost my grandfather 3 years ago and I just want to say that I learned so much from him. He loved to get out and do things. He loved the great outdoors of NW Arkansas!!!

remember, if you didn't know this, HSV isn't terribly close to anything so finding a job may not be all that easy..
If you like the restrictions of a gated community you couldn't find a better place to live..Do you have a young family or are you close to retirement age? One of the things that kept us from considering HSV too seriously was the lack of a hospital less than 20 or so miles away..
How would you be accepted? I doubt you would have any problems. HSV like Bella Vista is a mixture of people from all over the country...More from outside of AR than from inside.
I would suggest you write to the chamber of commerce for information and contact some companies that would possibly be able to help you with employment.

wow, you haven't been there recently I would guess! Yes, there are a lot of retired people as it was one of three villages, originally developed for retirees, but that is changing. They have schools (elementary and up) they have great youth programs and it is a good area for families, just like what is happening to Bella Vista.
Of course when you are golfing you will see your share of seasoned people, but this does not represent the entire community. Although I would not live in a gated community, your assessment is all wrong.
As for prices being high, what are you comparing this to? Of course they are higher than some small towns, 40 miles from a major city, but compared to most places in the country HSV offers a lot of home for the money.
Hot Springs itself is exactly what you referred to, a tourist town and a bit on the artsy side. Does this make it a bad place? Absolutely not, but for someone who is looking for a contempory family like community I don't think I would choose Hot Springs itself. For singles, for married couples without kids or for those with kids that are looking for a lot of diversity Hot Springs would be a fun place to live, again, the isolation would concern me some.
