Elkins OR West Fork
I would greatly appreciate anyone familiar with these 2 locations - Elkins and West Fork - to give me any information about them regarding education, quality of living, or any other issue. I would like to hear how someone would compare them to each other. Also, if anyone has a strong opinion about only one of the locations, please feel free to share that with me also. Thank you so very, very much!!

Elkins is in a wide-valley surrounded by hills. West Fork is in a narrow valley surrounded by taller mountains. Elkins has more outside influence and more people from the NWA metro living in it. Elkins has more amenities, like a better grocery store, sonic, better restaurants. West fork has a new Arvest bank, but no chain restaurants. Elkins school is a better school too in my opinion. I actually went to school there. I never went to West Fork, but ive heard its not too great. While both towns are clickish and redneck, i think West Fork is more back-woodsish. West Fork is more scenic in my opinion with the mountains that surround it, and the riverside park, by the White River. Elkins' Bunch Park is nice too, and the river that runs next to it is very pretty as well (also the white river) All in all the towns are very similiar, except Elkins has more modern influence

Getmeout -
Gee, your name says it all, huh?
To the OP -
West Fork is quite small and hence Mr. Getmeout's remark about cliques. Most everyone is related. I think in many places like West Fork that is known as being family and not a clique - perhaps I could be mistaken. There is little in the way of a transient population, or transplants to the area. All that being said, Elkins is completely different in my mind. It is larger, it does have more amenities, and I think you're trying to compare apples and oranges. A visit to both is what you need!

If you are still interested, I lived 10 years in West Fork and now a year in Elkins, so I can compare pretty well I guess. I loved West Fork, happy with the school, (two kids)
love the parks, heard it was clicky, but never cared and it never bothered me either. Love the easy commute to Fayetteville on the 540.
All together my family has been happy in West Fork. But opportunity lead us to a home in Elkins, so we gave it a try. It's also pleasant, schools I think are similar. City goverment is not as progressive as West Fork, and pretty politicial, in who you are I think. The commute to Fayetteville sucks pretty much. The store is a little better. There are a couple nice resturants. We will probably move back to West Fork when we can.

I don't know much about Elkins, but grew up in West Fork-then moved away. West Fork has a very "Mayberry" feel. You would need to feel comfortable with small town life.It So many of the people that live in West Fork have lived there all their lives so you might be prone to feeling like an outsider since everybody knows everybody else and what people don't know is often misunderstood. On the upside- the scenery is BEAUTIFUL. When I go back to visit family I visit the Riverside park. My little sister (20 years younger than I) attends West Fork Elementary. From what I understand the elementary school is great, however the Middle school and High school are questionable.Another great thing about this small town is the incredibly low cost of living and easy commute. Also because it is so close Knit if you ever need anything the community seems to be open to helping one another. I myself am a bigger city girl.

Flooding?
We are planning to move to West Fork in the summer. Can anyone tell me about flooding? Since it is in the valley are there problems with flooding?
