Thinking of moving to Arkansas but...
Hello everyone. I currently live in Rockport, TX which is about 35 miles from Corpus Christi, TX. I despise it here due to total ignorance and everyone just ignoring everything that goes around and then say it does not exist. Everyone knows where the meth labs and the crack houses are yet they are still in business...after many years. It's so odd how only the users get arressted. The same guy has sold drugs here for oever 20 years and not seen a day in jail! Corrupt sherrif, poilice, judges, teacher...it's totally insane. Sorry for ranting but that sure felt good.
Me and my family took a visit to Hot Springs, Arkansas and really enjoyed out time there. Was even thinking of moving there. Then I start to read all these different things about Arkansas and now am having second thoughts.
I am basically looking for a place that is not to big, has things to do for the family, pretty scenery, low cost of housing, low crime rate and does not have to much corruption. Can anyone please help. Any place in Arkansas like that? I was actually shocked at how high the crime rate in Hot Springs was...that shocked me.

Pea Ridge, Arkansas
Come to Pea Ridge, small population but close by Bentonville and Rogers, home to the Pea Ridge National Military Park, quick drive to the lake or to shopping and other family activities. Lower housing costs, new schools, low crime rate and so on. You'll probably end up working in Rogers or Bentonville or even Springdale or Fayetteville, but it's not a long commute.

I think those crime rates might be misleading. I've lived in Hot Springs all my life and I've always felt safe. Overall, the city is safe. What kind of crime problem in particular concerns you most?

all of it...
All types of crimes worry me. My wife is Hispanic so that worries me a bit after hearing about racism. Murder, rape, breaking into houses, drugs and assaults I guess are on top of the list. I also read on other posts that all the lakes and creaks are polluted due to the chicken industry and then some place where chemical weapons are stored really freaked me out.

forgot..
Also, my wife is a medication aid at a nursing home. Gets paid $13.00 an hour. Was wondering what the pay for a medication aid would be in different parts of Arkansas. Also how good is the health care. Where I live it is horrible. Have to take a 35 minute drive for good health care and 3 hours for top notch.

Hmm I don't think you have to worry, there really isn't that much crime in Hot Springs - burglary and drug use might be the biggest thing you have to worry about. Just don't wander into the ghetto areas or hang around shady characters and you should be alright. I wouldn't worry about your wife either - no one is going to harass her or anything - though she might not receive "a warm reception" from some people. Lake Ouachita in Hot SPrings is one of the cleanest lakes in the country. Hot Springs tap water is top notch. Chemical Weapons are not stored in Hot Springs. I don't know about health care pay but generally jobs are low paying in Hot Springs, as in most smaller cities. There are 2 hospitals in Hot Springs but my own personal opinion is that the doctors in Hot Springs are not very competent. Better healthcare can be found in Little Rock, which is about an hour and a half away. HOpe this helps.

I'm thinking maybe Heaven. Unfortunately you have to die to get there. I hate to tell you this but your going to find that junk everywhere as long as you stay there long enough to see it. Every place has its problems, so focus on the positives vs the negatives. I live in Brownwood Tx, biggest small town drug problem around. Per capita we are like #4 in crime with only 20,0000 population, thats bad. We fall behind Dallas, Houston and Austin.

yea..ok...
Focus on the positive instead of the bad? Why would you want to live in a place that I just mentioned? There are HUGE differences in problems from town to town. Every town has problems but there are towns where there are much smaller problems then others.
