This whole thing just makes me so sad. In the last 3 years, while my youngest son has attended UofA, my husband and I have become big time hog fans, even though our deepest allegiance will always be with Texas A&M (hubby and oldest son are alums and we're native Texans). We love going to games and calling the hogs. Besides, it's been nice to have a winning team to cheer for, for a change.
As much as I would hate to see the team (and all the fans) suffer, I do hope they get rid of him. It sets such a bad example for these young people who look up to him. And I really hope that by the time his wife gets through with him, getting fired will be the least of his worries.

I remember at the time our son first decided he was going to Arkansas my husband commenting about the coach and what a scum-bag he thought he was for what he'd done to Atlanta to Louisville. Several times he commented that he hoped he never pulled anything like that at Arkansas. While its not the same thing, it's all immoral and just really shows a lack of character.

sounds pretty much on base. I wonder what is going on in his house right now, I bet it isn't pretty.

It remains to be seen as we all know, but I am guessing we will have a decision by Tues at the latest. The biggest problem, as I see it is the players, both present and future as of this fall. Think of the 3 or 4 that might have chosen to opt for the for the pro pool but decided to play their last season under Patrino and thsoe recruits coming up now and in the fall, that signed because they wanted the experience of playing for a coach with his ability to build teams and players. No matter what happens a lot of young people will be hurt one way or the other.

Tomorrow we will have Easter brunch here. Our one granddaughter who graduated from Ar will be here with her husband who has 4 season tickets to AR games. Not only does he hold a masters degree in engineering from AR he is about the most loyal fan there is but also one of the most moral people I know. I will be interested to see what he has to say.

A thing to think about here is that in a lot of cases on the team, the head coach may be the absolutely closest thing some of the kids have as a father figure. A number of recruits come from fatherless homes looking for someone to look up to. Arkansas really needs to take that into consideration when deciding on Petrino.

If he had only said "yes, she was riding with me, so what!?" Then I think this whole thing would have already been over with.

Exactly why he should be released. Why have this lack of character and integrity as a role model?

FYI--The online versions of the Northwest Arkansas Times and the AR "Demozine" have posted Coach's contract, the police report, the 911 call, etc.

Now, yesterday I see an online article on KNWA's page--Interesting turn of events---the "good samaritans" who drove Coach to meet the trooper have been interviewed off camera by the news...and the latest version was not what was first reported.

Hope this links to the story: PETRINO UPDATE: 911 Call, Trooper Questioned & Drivers Contradict Police Report More is coming out; more people are going to get hurt.

AR has become the laughing stock of the nation now. "AR Coach busted" is running on the Times Square Ticker; ESPN radio has some sportscasters laughing...literally.

Makes me sick!

That is a good point, one I have mentioned before but didn't think about it in this case. The more I think about this mess the more I think the university and Patrino are screwed regardless. There is no right or wrong answer I don't think, or should I say no right answer.

I completely agree. Yes, there would have been some figure pointing but it would never have gotten to this stage. I still doubt he will get canned.

OurGreatEscape, I don't think I would go so far as to say we have become the laughing stock of the nation. This will pass very quickly and it certainly isn't the first time something like this has happened. I think, like so many other things lately we are all to quick to judge. what about Clinton, wasn't that a little worse than this?

Wow - I didn't know amnesia was contagious. See, an old dog can learn....

I don't know what to think - I know the captain personally, worked with him in patrol at LRPD. He was a pretty upright guy...family of police officers. Before we all go off on a tangent about the corrupt police, I'm only stating my personal knowledge of the man. He was a very good officer.

Well, it will be interesting to see who throws who under the bus. The only smart one at this point is Jessica what's-her-name, who has gone to ground and hasn't been heard from since this all happened.

Nita, I have to agree - Clinton was just an embarrassment as far as I'm concerned - but Arkansans did what they do best and rallied 'round the home team guy. Cigars and oval offices, lies...sigh...at least Petrino hasn't said "I did not have sex with that woman", but I'm sure it's coming.

I really don't see him getting fired. He's a great coach of a valuable college team. This will get swept away if he will just STOP LYING. Everyone needs to stop covering up - whatever happened probably isn't nearly as bad as the stories people can spin if left to their own imagination. At the very least, I can't see how it could get much worse...
