My great grand aunt Ruth Avon Whipple and her husband Roy Almond Whipple were the last private owners of McFadden 3 Sisters Springs in Arkansas before the Army Corps of Engineers took it over and now it's all part of Lake Ouachita State Park. (They also owned the World's Wonder Waters bottling co.) Does anybody have any photos - old or new? - of that area?

I am especially wanting to know if her house that Uncle Roy built for her is still up there on the hill behind the resort. There was the resort main office, and little vacation cottages, and then behind that a hill and her house was built back up on that hill. It was built in the 40's and at the time was said to have cost around $200-300K to build, so it was have been a very nice house for the 40's. She loved music so Roy had speakers built into the trees in the woods surrounding the house and you could walk through the woods and listen to music. My grandmother has many fond memories of her time spent there.

Any photos of any of that? I would love to see them!

Oh my gosh! Oh please do! Oh I'll rep you bunches.

I have a few pictures, some from family and others I've found here and there. I will put them up here, too, in case others are interested in the springs.

The three springs. McFadden 3 Sisters Springs had already had several owners previously, before Aunt Ruth and Uncle Roy Whipple acquired them. They were originally homesteaded by John McFadden in 1875. He had three daughters, and so that is where it is said that the "3 Sisters" part of the name comes from. The area is now preserved as part of Lake Ouachita State Park, and the three springs have now been directed into one stream as well as into Lake Ouachita.

Those (above) were the little vacation cottages people could stay in.

This (above) was the main office for the resort. These last three photos were taken in 1948. My great grand aunt Ruth's house was up on a hill behind this photo.

I don't know if this photo will work... but I'll try:

I couldn't find the pictures, but I found this video I took of my youngest daughter playing there. It shows some of the buildings around there. I'll go out there tomorrow and get you some pictures of everything out there.

What a cutie Dr. Foos! Thanks for sharing that video.

When you say "It's all still there" do you mean her house up on the hill and the little cottages and everything, too?
