River Recommendations for Arkansas
Seeking recommendations/advice on rivers of N. W. Arkansas. Planning to relocate to N. W. Arkansas and would like to find river property. What rivers would one recommend and why? Any comments on the Caddo River, Cossato River, Rolling Fork River, and the Fourche Lafaye River would be appreciated. Other suggestions would be welcome as well.

S W Arkansas
I noticed you never received any replies to your query, just thought I'd point out that the rivers you requested information on are not in NW Arkansas, they are much further south.

Many thanks for your correction. I realized this error after I had posted and am sorry that I had not made the change. But still would like to hear opinions about the rivers mentioned in my original posting.

I had no idea the Fourche LaFave ran through NW Arkansas. I knew it ran through Perry County in Central Arkansas; my folks live about a half-mile from it.

In reply no. 5, I indicated that I was in error re the geographical location. Having said that, can you provide some input/information/comments about living on the Fourche LaFave River? Flooding? Can you navigate it in a small boat? Many houses on the river? Many full-time residents living on the river? Where on the river, if you elected to live/build a home would you locate... any input would be most helpful.

Living on an Arkansas River/Suggestions
Surely there must be some river dwellers out there with internet access who can comment about living on a river in Arkansas. We are interested in buying riverfront property with an existing home but would like suggestions as to which rivers in North West/Central Arkansas can be easily navigated by a small craft. Comments about fishing would also be appreciated. Geographical suggestions would also be helpful in relationship to ease of shopping and other necessary life needs.

Snadely, bless your heart! You just aren't having any luck!
The only place I can personally tell you about would be the White River at Mountain View, but the White stretches a ways. We have a cabin at Sylamore that backs up to the river, which is absolutely wonderful for trout fishing and catfish. We have our boat at Jack's Landing across the river from the cabins. As far as shopping, you may be kind of out of luck in Mtn. View - it is a VERY small town, and Clinton is about the closest thing. Little Rock is 1 1/2 hours away, Conway is about an hour away - and you could get anything you needed in Conway and most of what you need in Clinton -but there aren't any malls or anything like that. Mtn. View itself pretty much has music on the square and Wal Mart, and now you've seen the whole town. It is close to Blanchard Caverns - there are quite a few river dwellers along that stretch and back toward Fifty-Six. I absolutely love it - it is such a friendly town and very quiet, and the music on the square draws a pretty fair share of tourists during the warmer months - it's all local talent. Then again, I don't live there every day - but I sure would like to!

When the definitive dictionary of Arkansas idiom and usage is compiled, I'll be nominating that as the paradigmatic usage of "bless your heart".
