Malvern, about 30 minutes from Hot Springs, has a fairly new correctional facility...they advert for officers quite often. Malvern is growing and it's right off the interstate.

I caught this thread late, and I don't know if you've made a move yet, but Calico Rock is a real good place.
The correctional facility there is a medium/low with training facilities. If the inmates cause too much of a problem, they are shipped to another facility. They have to earn the right to be there (North Central unit). Corrections has a constant hiring campaign going on, and they start out just over $26,000 a year with good benefits. The area around calico Rock is nice with Mountain Home and Salem being close. Very sceneic, lots of recreation, good medical facilities, and rental is pretty much whatever you're looking for. Mountain Home is a huge tourist area with a big lake and lots of entertainment. |

Just stay away from bottom land , the flooding was a Hundred year one, that walluped the low river areas, we live up a little higher safe distance . If you check out Calico rock, i know there is a state run shooting range near there, and you have Norfork lake, and white river not far away, also Bull shoals is down the road a piece. Plenty of hunting, some areas have too many Deer, the fishing is fantastic, you will see for yourself. We moved from Outta state 5+yrs ago now, and have found plenty of helpful neighbors and friends, we got lucky and have a great Growing garden spot too ! Arkansas has some spots that grow rocks well, haha, an oldtimer told us that they keep the moister in so don't even try to pickem all out ! People stop on country roads to help each other , we appreciate the native wisdom .
PS Mountain Home, now has two large Home improvement stores, and most things you need, and restaurants are improving, Bowling alley, Movie rental shops, Car rentals, even Limo service, and soon the Regional airport will be in service there, ofcourse Guns and Fishing shops, we even bought stain glass supplies near there. Wait till you see all the coloured Birds here, we saw Orioles, Blue Birds, Red Cardinals, Yellow Finches, ++ Once in awhile an Armadillo-dont touch them some Doctors say they carry Leprosy,(they think if you contact them as a youngster then again as an adult you may contact it, but they have Meds to control it, no worries mate). The Mountain Home area is beautiful. It has everything you describe that you want. A previous post said there is a correctional facility in Calico Rock which is just about 30 min. south of Mountain Home. The Baxter County hospital is one of the best in the state. I know an awesome Realtor in Mountain Home if you need one.
