Need a change
Hi,
We are from South Dakota and want to move southeast. Kentucky? Tennessee? Arkansas? What does anyone think. This is my first day here. Looks like fun. Think we should do some traveling down to that area first? We are both in our 50s. Thank you! Bev

I'd say every area will vary....Kentucky is obviously going to have colder winters, but both KY and TN are lovely...I'm in the river valley of Arkansas, west of Little Rock about 80 miles. This is the only place I'd ever want to call home, but I do love NE Tennessee dearly and there's nothing like a Kentucky spring.
I'd say a long road trip is in your future. What about employment, anything to consider there? Maybe we could give you more options if we knew more about what you're looking for!

I've lived in Arkansas and Tennessee. There are beautiful spots in both states. What type of terrain do you like, city size, activities, etc...

I love Arkansas. I've lived in Eastern Arkansas (the delta), Northwest Arkansas (which is rapidly growing and everything is new), and I currently live in Central Arkansas (which is a beautiful area.) It depends on what you want!

I'd strongly recommend North Alabama...both the Huntsville and Birmingham metro areas are thriving...
Huntsville has a high tech economy built on aerospace and defense. NASA was started there and still has a dominant presence.
Birmingham has one of the largest research medical centers in the U.S., 7000 AT & T technical employees and has the 6th lowest metro unemployment rate in the U.S.
Here are some photos of Birmingham including several fine restaurants....

I don't want to be presumptuous, but are you looking for a place to retire? If so, there are some great places in Northwest and North Central Arkansas. East Tennessee is also a great area. You might also look into Oxford, Mississippi, which is becoming increasingly popular among retirees.
(Birmingham, btw, is imo as 'yucky' a city as one can find. Huntsville is nice, though. Nevertheless, I'm not sure what either place had to do with the OP's question.)
