supported work programs for adults with MR
We're considering a move to Conway, Cabot, or North Little Rock in June. Does anyone know about the availability of services for the intellectually disabled adults. Are there day programs? Is there a waiting list? What about recreation activities such as special olympics?

The only program I am aware of, although I'm sure there are more, is run by Easter Seals in Little Rock, which is off Cantrell Rd. just west of I-430. I'm not sure what their requirements are - they have a large school for children and some sort of a day work program for adults. You'd have to call and ask - here's the link:

Bobby Doyle is the director of the Olympics program:

If you follow some of the links for Arkansas Human Development from the last link in Sam I Am's post, you'll find information on the several Human Development Centers run by the state. I'm passingly familiar with the one in Conway, as there were a couple of clients of that Center working on campus at Hendrix College when I was a student there in the early 1980s. It sounds like the sort of thing you're looking for. (Sorry to be late to the party -- been on the road most of the week).

Take alook at this site. AR-GetCare This site will present you with small survey/questionaire to assess the individual's needs and then supply you with contact information to agencies, etc. that might be beneficial. Here is the address for the Arkansas Department of Human Services which may give you added contact information. http://www.state.ar.us/dhs/index.html
There are centers in that area and I think they are called Friendship Community Care.
