Is the GDX plant in Batesville closing down or having major layoffs? The Wabash In plant is heading for a 90% layoff just before the holidays. Jobs going elsewhere and to Mexico! Thanks NAFTA

I believe they just had some major lay-offs. I don't know for sure yet if they are closing. Looks pretty quiet around there from what I have been told.

The company just announced to the union that the plant would be closed in the next several months at the Wabash plant. A major layoff is scheduled for next month, then the rest will go out over 2-4 months.

does anyone know if the Bateville workers got a severance package or their pensions? Or did the company rip them off?

Hi katkat05, i'm working at the magog, quebec canada facility and our plant will be shut down on february 8th. Wynnchurch Capital management , a chicago based equity firm bought M.A.P.S (metzeler automotive profile sustem) and GDX. So GDX will be incorporated to the MAPS operation except for 3 plant : batesville, wabash and magog. We are receiving some kind of bonus if we stay till the end. My husband works at the Wabash plant and has about 19 years. Many already are out the door, leaving about 200 or less. They said it could shut down anytime between now and March 1.
He just found out that he will get 8000.00 before taxes as a severence package and his pension will still be intact.....thank God, we was really worried about that. So many people out of work with no insurance its awful. And Wabash is a tiny community of 12000. Many married couples work there, older people that will have a hard time finding a job. I am worried for us, but I know we are better off that many others.
We should have guessed that it didn't look good when Cerabus bought GDX.
