The major problem there is, as we have discussed, is that people buy houses, then try to get everything changed so that it's like the area they just ran away from.

That, and property values have declined to the point that it's very attractive to get a cheap place to set up a meth lab.

I was reading in the paper the list of "permits" that Horseshoe Bend had issued in a month recently. Absolutely amazing. It went on and on for even the smallest improvements.

I was thinking, "Gee, if that happens in the country, I'd have to get a permit to go have a beer on my deck".

I've got property in and around Cherokee, and for right now, it sits. Maybe the market will get better, I don't know. I was going to build there some years ago until it incorporated, and once that happened I wrote that off and built on my hunting property.

Darned glad I did.

I'm with you on keeping Cherokee a restricted retirement area, but I don't see the powers that be letting that happen.

Cherokee Village is getting a Dollar General store next to the Lake view restaurant at the old airport. All the trees are being removed along the road leaving the homes across the street no privacy from people going in and out of the store. I feel so sorry for those people living across the street and no doubt it will lower their home values.
