Smile Moving to Arkadelphia

My family is thinking very seriously of moving to Arkadelphia within the next month or so. My father was born and raised in Harrison. We've always lived in California and are ready for a slower pace of life. Any info about Arkadelphia would be appreciated.

Default First there are two colleges in this town..

Ouachita Baptist % & Henderson State University...

Arkadelpia proper if you are high school age seems to be alright'

Prepare to drive twenty miles up the road to Hot Springs
for entertainment such as theatre ...or posh eating establishments

Lake Degray, is called a diamond lake, there are two rivers the Caddo (named for indeginous people that lived in the area)
one is a fast moving shallow that folks tube on everyday in the summer
the other is slow great for fishing..

There is a swimming beach at DeGray, they have stable to horse back ride.

I don't know what you're expectations of the area you are intrested in

Since we are retired we do not know much about the schoos (no children at home)

This is definatly a slow paced somewhat Rockwell painting sort of an area..

Good luck in you're move..

Harrison is up north, correct?
Arkadelphia is a college town of 10,000. After Adams Book Store closed there were only the college bookstores there. I believe Adams has re-opened. Wal Mart is is gathering place and cultural center for Saturday night.
Many people make their connections through the church.
Arkansas gets hot, very hot, in the summer. Be prepared to run your AC from April-May until October-November.
From my experience many southerners are very nice, kind, and accepting. Others are still fighting the Civil War, aka The War of Northern Aggression.
Hot Springs is about 45 miles up the (two-lane) road, timewise Little Rock is really no farther away, going up I-30.
I think a lot will depend on the neighborhood you move to. Home prices are far more reasonable than in many areas which are flying out of control.
Good luck.

That's right Harrison is up north. It's OK that it's hot there, we're used to that where we're living now. I just wish our house would hurry up and sell, we've had it on the market for almost 8 months, and are very anxious to get to Arkansas and get on with our lives.
