I've visited the St. Joe area a couple of times a year all my life and I love it there. I've decided to relocate my family to N. Arkansas as we are getting sick of Louisiana. I work overseas so job availability is not important. My wife home schools our children so school location is not important. What I would like to know is what area of N. AR would have the best deal on real estate? We're wanting a small farm type setting out of the cities but close enough to shop without driving half a day. Fishing, hunting, and camping are very high on the list of priorities along with just enjoying a laid back life.I appreciate any input.

I don't know much about the real estate market in rural Northern Arkansas, but I can tell you that unless you get relatively close to Conway, Russellville, Harrison, Mountain Home, or the Fayetteville/Bentonville Metro you're shopping will be quite limited.
I see you visit St. Joe quite often, if that's the area you enjoy, I would look around the outskirts of Harrison for property. Harrison is a nice town with most fast food chains and a small variety of clothing stores. It is approximately 2.5 hours form Little Rock and 1 hour or less from Branson, MO. Both of which would offer all the shopping you can handle. I wish I knew more about property values in the area. I imagine housing to be inexpensive, but undeveloped land is probably quite a bit higher due to the nature of the agricultural community. |

We just visted Mountain View for Spring Break and just loved it! There is a beautiful cave that the kids can tour and during Christmas they have caroling in the cave. We went horseback riding, beautiful streams to place in and beautiful parks to picnic at near Sylamore Forest. We just had so much fun. Mountain View is only around 2,000 people but they do have a Wal-Mart Super Center. It's only around an hour North of Conway and close enough to Little Rock. The older folks play mountain music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights downtown. We really enjoyed our visit. Also, Mirror Lake is a great place to take the kids trout fishing. Basically the Fayetteville mall sucks, the best place to shop is Bass Pro (lol) which is in Branson, Mo and Springfield, Mo. Branson is less than an hour from lead hill which is outskirts of harrison and yellville. Bergman is right in there too. |
