Even before i moved away i never thought it was overcrowded when it was all i was used to. Now that i've moved away, i love going to fayetteville to have a nice relaxing country vacation visiting family and not having to deal with bad traffic, crime, etc. But of course i'm happy to get back to the city afterwords, couple years in one and its hard to go back

It's a night class that ends at 8:30 pm, so the incident happened shortly after. I travel there once a week (and daily last summer) and I'm sure this was an isolated incident; it's just irritating to deal with people like that who are up to no good. Just goes to show that everyone has their share of troublemakers. |

When I was a kid in NW AR in the early 80s we all used to cruise wallmart and the dixieland mall there was a fight now and then, or we would find empty lots in Bella Vista and have parties until the police showed up and run us out, there was lots of parties out in the sticks up across the state line in misouri around Cassville were it wasnt uncommon for the misouri rednecks and ar rednecks to start fighting there was knives and guns every now and then most of us lived through it and wouldnt change that part of growing up for anything. There is alot more to do there now than there was back then for everyone and I cant understand why anyone wouldnt love it there. Life is what you make of it where ever your at. Even the rednecks that liked to fight were not rude people. So I dont get where this guy is coming from saying NW AR is so bad

I know this thread has been quite for a while, but it's been very interesting to read. I am a NWA native, and don't find it overcrowded at all. Yes, we're going through a big boom which is great for our economy. I find that most people are friendly to others, even those who they don't know.

I like to say NWA is so popular because it offers this American Dream(TM) at a Wal-Mart price. People can make similar wages in NWA as places like Plano and Naperville, but the cost of living is a lot cheaper so you have more disposable income, which means more eating out at PF Changs and Red Lobster. I am sure, as most suburban areas, the schools are good and its a great place to raise a family.
The one problem I have with NWA and its reputation is that people hype it up so much when in fact its pretty much just a typical American sprawl of suburbia. Chain restaurants, strip malls, gated subdivisions galore! There is nothing you can find in NWA thats not in Germantown, TN, Edmond, OK, or even Conway, AR. The difference is these things are reletively new to NW Arkansas because just a couple decades ago it was nothing more than a sleepy corner of a rural state. NWA can really be impressive to those who were familiar with the area before the Wal-Mart boom, but to someone who has been around to many places, I don't see what the big deal is other than low-cost suburban living. |

Interesting article in our paper today about population growth. Of course most of it is in the south/soutwest with Dallas and Altanta leading the pack. The only city or area in the midwest/northern Southern tip that made the top cities or areas for growth was Fayetteville/NWA.

Like i've said before to about the 1 person that says this lol, NWA isn't just a big bunch of sprawl. You must remember, NWA was a smaller, more rural area that has undergone drastic growth, so its not like they could just throw together a big downtown and call it a day. It is an area developing quickly from small to bigger, and the metro is catching up to the biggest in the state at surprising rates. Again if you are looking for a real city experience, you wont find it in Arkansas lol, NWA doesn't have a specific central heart to it, and little rock is small and doesn't have much of a downtown, with not much to do,not really any skyscrapers or anything of the sort, and from most accounts dead most of the time anyways.

As for real urban areas, Little Rock comes close but to experience a real city you have to go to Memphis, Tulsa, or Kansas City. Anyways, I didn't even mention LR in my original post in this thread. |
