I was there in June and I heard about how great it was and I was all excited about going there and when I got there, It just seemed like an overgrown country town. I looked for a job there and to my surprise, good, high paying jobs are lacking and it seems to be a haven for illeagle imagrants. Granted I wasnt there all that long, but thats just my survey. Its nice, but not for young people, more for retirees. |

Welcome to the new south! It's all those people from up North that have invaded the south, but all we hear from them is "things were so much better up north"! You can imagine what my answer is! Good Luck!

Interesting Comment. I lived in NWA from 1995-2004 and moved away to live in Orlando, my hometown. NWA has it's good moments and bad moments. I basically have good memories. Sorry guys, but the traffic in NWA is non-existent. The only time that it is bad is when BB&BBQ comes to town...but that is only for a couple of days. Imagine it being like that all of the time!!!!
I felt very safe most of the time when I was there. I recall walking from the square in Fay to dickson Street at night alot and never having any problems whatsoever....try walking from the Amway Arena here in Orlando to downtown and not having any problems....YEAH RIGHT!!!! I miss the laid-back party atmosphere of Dickson, I also miss going to get gas at a gas station and not having to wait in line forever... Also, the cost of living in NWA is good. I bet that you can still get a good single apartment at a good rate. Down here in O-town a decent bachelors pad in a safe part of town might cost you 1,000 a month.....that blows....I remember paying 450.00 a month for my place in Fay back in 2004...now I pay two times that much.... The only negative things that come to mind.... 1. Fat Tuesday. It seemed like that every crazy person in NWA would come out for this just to cause trouble. 2. The traffic for BB&BBQ. I remember that a lot of local people that I knew would leave town when this event would come thru.... 3. Not being able to buy beer in grocery stores and on Sundays...This really is strange when I come back to visit... However, I lived in NWA throughout most of my 20's....and those are some pretty good memories..... |

Everything is relavent: I am sure top paying jobs are not a dime a dozen in NWA, as said before, it isn't a city or community like Dallas or Atlanta, etc. Arkansas is still a rather small state with few major cities. The mention of illegals makes me giggle a little. Yes, most of us have heard about the influx of illegals working in the poultry industry, of course some may be legal, that I certainly do not know, but one needs to live in the Southwest or Chicago, Los Angeles (part of the SW of course) or NYC to really know what the influx of illegals really means. Traffic, again, this is relavent. After being raised in So Calif, living in the bay area, DC area and 13 years in the DAllas area, we really know what traffic is all about. People talk about how bad Albuquerque is, we just look at each other and wink. Of course, even our little town has seen some explotion in growth the past 5 or so years and our traffic is heavier, but nothing like we have witnessed over our lifetime.
There are many wonderful things about New Mexico, still give us the trees, the slow life, the lack of lazy people and all the other good things we have seen and heard about NWA, plus a good football team and we can't wait. Nita ![]() |

Rude people? The most annoying thing I see from day to day is someone letting too many people turn in front of them in traffic! Crime? A problem? compared to what? Homes taken away in the name of big business? Even if that was true, Eminent Domain is everywhere. Not just here. I'm disappointed in you brajo. You should't make such general statements, bella vista as "old snoots", or that nwa is all about making money and nobody cares about anybody, everywhere you go is road construction, etc. By the way, Fayetteville is a COLLEGE TOWN, there is plenty to do! |
