Default NW Culture

NW Arkansas has had culture all along. It's called HILLBILLY culture. Just like in the Blue Ridge Mtns. Why people want to change it I'll never know.

"We don't care how you did things back east, up north, or out west...you're in the Ozarks now" Comform and enjoy.

Personally, I didn't want this area to grow like it has. It's gone from being a sweet, friendly, mayberry-type of place to being and cluster**** full of uncompassionate, rude Wal-Mart vendors driving ugly-gasguzzleing Hummers. Then we have Tyson foods and Bush to thank for the illegal hispanics that have moved in and bombarded all the "free" state medical clinics with dozens of children. And land developers are hell bent on turning SE Rogers into a ghetto as fast as they can!

If I had my way...Wal-Mart would leave and take all their stuck-up vendors with them. Tyson would leave. Illegals would go back across the border, and all of us that pay taxes would be able to get appointments for OUR children at state health facilities!

I wish I could turn back time to when NWA was known for truely being the Natural State with forests full of ancient trees and rivers and lakes weren't contaminated with poultry crap.

Instead, now we have an Ozarks Chainsaw Massacre and we can all swim and fish in the wonderful Chicken Poop lake or river!

I can remember going hunting with my dad when I was a kid. When all of the land west of Dixieland St. in Rogers and between Bentonville was farmland and trees. We used to hunt Quail there. Hwy 102 was a two-lane country road with no street lights. I-540 didn't exist and Wal-Mart was a five & dime. The only hispanics I knew were the two kids I went to school with...and they didn't even know spanish!

NW Arkansas used to be a wonderful place to live where everybody knew each other and if they didn't know ya, they still treated you like you were a friend

And as far as Arkansawyers being uneducated and poor...I'm neither. But you won't hear me running down other states and it's citizens that are poor or uneducated. That's just not something that my Arkansas raised parents taught their children.
You should move to the Ft. Smith/River Valley area. This area has been completely unaffected by the boom up in NW Arkansas and most of the people here want to keep it that way. You might also like the Harrison or Mountain Home area. Like the river valley, they have also been unaffected by the boom and life still moves slower than it does in most of the country.

To a lot of us, that's exactly what the NWA area is. One big overcrowded metro.

you have no idea what an overcrowded metro area is or you wouldn't think that. Of course it has grown and may continue which means more traffic, conjestion and perhaps a little loss of "that county" feeling, but it certainly isn't anywhere close to a metro area.....

Oh brother, overcrowded? Get real. What is the population density for Bentonville?
1,400 people per square mile!!

Let sample a few others:

Dallas: 3,551 people per square mile,
Atlanta: 3,617 people per square mile,
Houston: 3,655 people per square mile
Seattle: 6,866 people per square mile,
Los Angeles: 8,201 people per square mile,

And too top it off here is the main reason I came to Arkansas!

Miami:10,838 people per square mile!!!

Maybe the people saying this is overcrowded live in really tiny towns? But as you can tell, it could be alot worse.

Sergio's got a valid point...we talk about crowded, but those of us born and raised or long time residents of Arkansas really don't know overcrowding. We know the shift we've seen in the last number of years, but we really don't have a clue what mass density can be.

I'll just leave it that the two "metro" areas of Arkansas are still too crowded for me...I like a lot of elbow room!

Isn't it something when people move to a new area and a new state, And they want to try to change it to be like the place they moved from, Or these people come from other country's and do the same thing and fly their old flag. It would be like me moving to Arkansas and flying the California flag. If it was so good their then stay their and don't try to change not one thing about are way of life.
