Why Arkansas? (foreclosures, insurance, job)

you are the one that, on another thread mentioned NWA as being overrated? Again, what are you basing this on? There is more to NWA than Bella Vista (which isn't even all about retirees anymore) there is Bentonville and what about Fayetteville? Because it is a college town it is filled with culture, a little more liberal than other areas, of course is very pretty and there is a lot to do.

You mention high paying jobs, I don't think there are many places in Arkansas, it is somewhat like NM, where there are a zillion high paying jobs. This too may change in the very near future. Remember, high paying jobs as you put it, normally result in high cost of living.

Greg & Vicky--living in west Tennessee I know exactly what you mean about the humidity! i have a daughter and 3 grandkids that live about 100 miles south of Belle Vista and i go there alot. Although the weatherman tells me that the humidity is 80-90%, it never seems to feel that way to me when I am there.I dont know if it is because I am used to it or if it is because there always seems to be FRESH air around the lakes and streams of western Arkansas, but you just dont seem to notice the humidity as much as you do at home. All I know is that there is SOMETHING so peaceful about the Ouachitas and the Ozarks, but especially the Ouachitas, that sometimes I just dont want to leave there!!

Don't ever listen to people in NWA complaining about humidity. They have no clue.

I'm from deep South Miss. Try THAT for humidity in the summer. (Texas is almost exactly the same.)

I took my fiancee down there in July and she said it was the nastiest heat she had ever felt having lived in South Arkansas most of her life.

Some people would complain if you shot them with a gold bullet.
I have lived all over this country excpt the very north west.
Noth is cold, short summers, from may to aug.
West very dry and no forest.
south hot and stickey. But after all the places I have lived the one with the least amount of snow and cheapest to live is a good attraction.
South Carolina is nice but very expensive to live and jobs only in the big cities. Same with NC. Florida used to be a cheap place to live but taxes and home prices have skyrocketed out of sight. Even with the correction things are still not great. Many places I have looked either have no work and economy or are very expensive. AR is one of the places still in the middle. it is growing and work is doing fair, homes are priced better than many parts of the country. taxes are very low. My plates on my 06 car were 25$ in Kansas that would be a 136$ charge. Because of the mild weather My car and home ins. was appx 100$ each polocy cheaper.
For those who say they would rather take a cold snow winter than the hot summer. You can have my share, I will not be using it any more.
I am not saying I do not miss some things about MI where I lived most of my life, but I can tell you from nov. to first of may it is cold wet and you just want to hole up in your house and crall under a blanket and wait till spring.
I think AR is still enough of a secret that in the next 20 years it will see more gorwth. Bring on the Cal. and Northern people. I do not want to live in place that looks at you and you can hear the mental "you aint from her is you" piercing you soul.
I know some northern people are rude but not all souther people are hospitible, Yellville or harrison are two examples of this. I know some will dissagree with me and that is fine, it is still my opinion TYVM.

Sergio, I read this and got a great laugh. Up here in Minnesota this past summer people were complaining about the humidity and it was all I could do to keep my mouth shut! I lived in South Florida for 18 years... now that's humidity!

Experience. NWA is not a bad place to be, its just giant suburbs with no downtown and no culture. Sorta like Phoenix Arizona or Grand Rapids Michigan. If I was getting ready to retire, maybe I would consider it but not as a young person looking for a fresh start in a big market with loads of opportunity. I would go to Dallas or Atlanta.

I'm moving to Bentonville from London in March via Dallas. As far as I can tell, Bentonville is the city of the 21st century. They used to say "Young Man Go West" in England, they say "You'll Make a fortune if your product is on Walmart's shelves", and you all roads lead to Bentonville.

Yeah, you dont know humidity until your skin sizzles and your clothes are wet with sweat. I would take a few days of 110 degree weather in NWA over 6 months of mind numbing, heat stroke, sweat soaked summers in South Florida.
