I would hardly describe Springdale as a bedroom community to Fayetteville. Springdale is it's own town as is Fayetteville. There is a very distinctive visual line between the two towns. Fayetteville is all about aesthetic beauty and quality of living and Springdale is all about being business friendly and lenient towards the ‘visual’ aspects of their town.

Wikipedia has Rogers listed a suburb and Springdale as a bedroom town of Fayetteville, yet isn't Springdale now bigger than Fayetteville?? Also, you have Fort Smith to the south. It's all a confusing mess and would be helped by a merger which would create a pretty big city, maybe we can call it Arkansas City or Northwest City or something, not trying to be corny, just being creative. Look at the benefits, no more cities trying to do it their own way, one government over one town, a crackdown on crime and illegals and more job growth.
Although it feels like one contiguous metropolitan area to a newcomer driving through, as soon as you dig a little deeper you will find that each town has its on unique identity, feel, and culture, and you can't really call one a suburb of the other. Fayetteville is young, hip, and liberal, Springdale is working-class, Rogers/Bentonville are business/new money oriented, and Bella Vista is a retirement community. Fort Smith is a completely different kind of town and is NOT part of NWA in any way.

So I guess Ft. Smith would be the step sister to the south?

Ft. Smith is part of the River Valley, which has its own feel and culture completely different from that in NWA. Ft. Smith has more in common with towns like Ozark, Altus, and Clarksville.

DC

New York City did it.

If we could merge all of the towns, I have thought before that we should stick with all the regional suffixes and call it Daleville Springs.

Realistically, in Benton County it would make a lot of sense to merge Rogers, Bentonville, Bella Vista, Highfill, Cave Springs, Avoca, Little Flock and Centerton into one community. The city could merge the water departments and gradually annex all electric lines into its own municipal service based on the current Bentonville model. Consolidating the two school districts and eliminating duplicate hierarchy would free up a little more money for teachers and classrooms.

Default Walton City, Arkansas

Once Walmart instituted the REQUIREMENT that all VENDORS live in the Bentonville area, thats when all heck broke loose.
I say, just merge the city and county govts in the area and name the area Walton City, Ar. ...because, take away WMT and all that you have left is Hog Heaven in Fayetteville. Sam would be fine with it.
Talk about an area thats Corporate driven! Walmart has the Bentonville area by the 's and thats all their is to it. The worlds number one retailer doesnt take any number 2 from anyone, especially local governments.

Nope you would still have Hunt Trucking, Tysons, and a few other major companies...Of course Wal-Mart controls a lot but isn't that the way it is when you have a major company in any location, especially when the location isn't all that big..??

Hey Nita. I understand about Hunt and Tyson and the chicken industry. Fact is , most people in the U>S would have never heard of Bentonville,Ar if not for Sam Walton and his Walmart stores.

No offense to Bentonville or the surrounding cities, but not only does Walmart control them, it controls a lot of what occurs in the united states and the world...specifically the retail sector.

9 out of 10 people outside the state of Arkansas wouldnt even be able to give you the city name (Fayetteville) where the Univ of Ark is located. (Best response would be to ask SEC football fans who attend the games there)LOL
