Default Need a safe place to live in AR, moving from WI

I recently got a teaching job in Jacksonville, AR. I currently live in WI and have never even been to AR. Where would be a safe place for a single, 23 year old female to live?

I am willing to drive 20-25 minutes to get to school. Thanks!

The Jacksonville crime index is 106 (106% of National average). To the south, Sherwood crime index is 81, to the north Cabot index is 51.

Thanks for that, is that all that is around there? Would it be safe to live in North Little Rock or Little Rock? I've also been looking at Maumelle.

Jacksonville is basically a suburb of Little Rock/North Little Rock itself, so there is no need for you to have to live far from the school that you will be teaching at. There are some very nice subdivisions popping up in Jacksonville that are becoming great neighborhoods in the city. If you are planning to rent at first, Chapel Ridge Apartments in Jacksonville (NOT THE ONE IN NORTH LITTLE ROCK!) would probably accomodate a young single female very well. If for some reason you prefer to live in one of the northeast suburbs other than J'ville, you may want to look at Cabot which borders J'ville to the north or Sherwood that borders J'ville to the south. I see no reason for you to have to look as far south as LR/NLR.

The commute from Maumelle to Jacksonville wouldn't be much fun.

You would be fine living in Jacksonville, Sherwood, or Cabot. As said, you are in the Little Rock metro so you won't have to drive far for anything you need. The suburbs are generally pretty safe. No need to live in LR or NLR itself. Just find a place close to your work.

Default Jacksonville should be fine to live in......

just keeping asking and maybe someone from Jacksonville will tell you exactly where to live to be the safest. Also, being a single female, never go out at night by yourself-anywhere! That's just safe advice no matter where you live these days. Good luck and you'll like living close enough to LR for shopping, etc.

Depending on what part of WI you're coming from, the commute from Maumelle to Jacksonville might not be too big of a problem. You'll definitely be at and sometimes over that 20-25 minute limit. The stretch of 40 through NLR would be the worst part but it really isn't that far. 67 is a total mess of construction but at least there you'd be going against traffic. Maumelle is a very safe community for the LR metro area.

I'd probably look at Cabot first though since it would be more convenient and cheaper. I personally wouldn't want to live in Sherwood or Jacksonville. But that's just my personal preference.
