My husband and I have been looking at properties online but i'm finding myself all over the central and northern portions of the state, not really sure what areas are best for what we're looking for, so can anyone here help.

We are looking for some seclusion. Since neither of us will be commuting daily and no children in school, we aren't needing to be too close to towns. Husband would love hunting from home, so either enough of our own land or against a national forest or public land. We would love over 20 acres. We also love fishing so an area also within driving distance or lakes or rivers, but doesn't have to be at our back door.

So the most important thing is the hunting and fishing. What we definitely don't want is lots of neighbors or too close to any town/city.

Thanks in advance!
We are moving from south Louisiana

wow, that could be almost anywhere in the north or central part of the state, NWA, NEA or the nothern part of the state. I am sure others will be more help than me. What price range are you considering and what type of home or are you just looking for the land right now?

Our price range would be 200-300K, and I would prefer something rustic, especially a log home.

One important thing your husband needs to be aware of is that Arkansas has very strict hunting laws. Even on your own property you can only hunt during designated seasons and with specifically designated weapons.

nmnita and I "compete" in promoting "our world". She promotes north and northwest Arkansas and I promote the Ouachita Mountains of west central Arkansas, but the important thing is that we (and others) try to give a broad point of view of areas in Arkansas.

I think finding a "rustic" or log home with 20 acres for sale will be difficult to find in any of the areas, but if you do, I think it will be within your budgeted price range. Good luck, and welcome to The Natural State.

Thanks Old Fossil, I think every state has designated hunting seasons and weapon use so he would definitely abide by those just as he does here in Louisiana.

I have been looking at some areas near Ouchita mountains also. Funny too cause I had to look up the pronunciation and it's pronounced the same as our Ouchita parish here in Louisiana. We would love property that joined with national forest. That would probably be best case senerio. I have found a couple log homes saved in realtor.com, they are in Leslie, Harrison, and Peel.

Holly, you may wish to check for realtors in Mena, Mt Ida, or Waldron. Those are small communities in the Ouachitas. I spent my teen age years in Mena and know/knew every hill, holler, and thorn bush in that part of the world . If circumstances permitted, I would be living there now.

You may want to check around the Baxter County area for the qualifications you are looking for. Tons of fishing and recreation. You can get out so a trip into town is not a big event, but you choose when to do it.

You mentioned Harrison, and I think you are prudent to look in that direction also.

I knew you would have some suggestions for her.

Ayup, been there done that. I literally spent the better part of two years doing research on the different areas, taking many, many factors in consideration, and my desires were much like hers. Bought our farm in '94, then spent vacations coming down and getting "integrated" in the neighborhood. 12 years of socializing, then retired and spent $$$$$ on improvements, dirt work, fencing, out buildings and built a house.

I know that she is looking to make a prudent move, as I was, and when you've got that much time and money invested, you sure as heck don't want to do it twice.

Been grinnin' ever since.
