I was just browsing the California threads and they were talking about how "reasonable" $3500.00 per month was for renting a house! No wonder they call it LALA Land!!

It's all relative. Unless you prefer to live in a cardboard box in California...

There's nothing relative about paying 3500 a month for renting a house.

Ridiculous, yes.

I agree Lt Dan, I live in AR and have a 86.6 acre ranch, hugh home, barn and can't find a buyer and it's only 229,000. I never could afford living in Cal. I think their all moving out of there now anyway. Just had some move here not long ago. Everyone's welcome here. Great state.............

I'm just saying, it sounds ridiculous to you because you don't live there. There are people in this world that would think paying $500 a month to rent a home is ridiculous too. It's all relative to what you know and what you're used to. If you lived out there, you wouldn't have much of a choice (and you'd automatically have a higher income, so you could afford more).

Yup, pearlbob--------I always chuckle when people want to move to a "low cost" area of the US but the first thing they inquire about is----"good paying jobs"

There is a correlation between --cost of living--and ---wages--- in nearly every area I have researched.

Seems to me that if you could afford to pay $3500.00 rent, you would just BUY A HOUSE! I did live in California for 25+ years. I was making a very good living. But momma didnt raise no fool! I had a very nice house for 900.00 a month and stuck alot of money in the bank. Am now retired and can afford to do whatever I want because i didnt give somebody $3500.00 a month. But I guess PT Barnum was right. Theres a fool born every second!

Well, real estate in Cali is a tad different now than it used to be. A house that is renting for $3500 a month is probably close to a million to buy. And if you want to live in the city center, right near stores and restaurants and businesses....

This day in age, esp out on the west coast, it just takes more than $900. That's not being a fool. That's just wanting to live in a non-slum in a good area of town. Heck, I'd be nervous about paying $900 for an entire house where I live, and I don't live in California. In most major cities, you are paying for safety and ammenities of the neighborhood, not for the actual home/apt.

And that's why you see us moving to beautiful places like Arkansas and Missouri. I figure to sell my little place ( 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 1100sq ft. on a 100ft x 70ft lot. and have enough to buy a nice place like yours and have some money left over for important things like fishing and hunting...
