Man! That's a mess! Mena's such a beautiful town, too. It's a shame this had to happen. Is this the first one for Mena? How long has it been since the previous tornado, if not?

Sorry that I didn't get back to you earlier but I've been volunteering.
The last tornado to hit Mena itself was in 1993 although there have been several in surrounding areas.

The Wildlife Rehab place did get hit pretty hard. We went out and donated some food to them Saturday and the lady that runs the place said that their house bobcat is missing. His name is Simon and he is very gentle and probably freaked out. He weighs about 30 lbs. and has all four feet de-clawed. If anyone has seen him in the West Boundry Rd/Hwy 375 area please send me an message. Thanks.

Great resource, CitySearcher! He's been a favorite of mine for some time. Another excellent resource, though without the great photography, is

The Arkansas Roadside Travelogue

SIA, I have some great photos of the Ouachita Mountains but don't know how to get them from my photo file to here. Help?

As Slingshot wrote; there was a tornado in 1993. I survived one there in the early 1940s which came southwest to northeast across the south edge of town. I was living about where the high school is now and it moved my house (intact) about 12 inches south. No damage, just moved us over. The three are the only tornadoes I know about, but they have had numerous straight-line wind storms which caused damage.

slingshot. What is the address of the house by the tree wrapped in sheet-iron and the Ford pick-up on the street? I lived in Mena a long time ago and my sister's home is still there. She has a house on 7th Street that was damaged and her home on 9th Street was also. I drove through there a couple weeks after the storm, and almost cried.
