LOL! ... No, not at all.
Fox16 webmaster is the creator. I surmise that to be a local news station, so it probably does not include any homicides that wouldn't be covered by a Little Rock station. I'm only guessing, though.
They do seem to be concentrated in certain parts of the big city. I also noticed that there are more homicides in Jan/Feb than the rest of the year. Gives new meaning to the term "cold hearted."

Looks like a lovely place for a long bike ride. I could get lost in Arkansas's hills and never return.

Great thread!!!
Just went through all 24 pages and couldn't have spent this rainy afternoon in a better way! Thanks to everyone who has shared!
My hubby and I just bought 17 acres between Ash Flat/Evening Shade and hope to be moved out there sometime in October. We've made 3 trips out there (from Middle TN) in the last month and a half and wanted to share some pix from our trips.
Anyone have any idea what type of plants are in the last 3 pix???
Enjoy!!!

Thanks for joining us Dawn! Tried to give you rep for that, but I must of already done it.
You're moving into my neck of the woods too. I bought in Horseshoe Bend and will be moving in Feb. Mebbie you guys can have all the catfish eateries staked out by then and tell me which one is the best.

That one might be a mimosa, the one that 69kb, and purplish thistles in the picture. Is it the kind that when you touch it, the leaves all fold up? Some people call it "sensitive plant" too.

Thanks for having me, BW!
We fell in love with the area immediately, it's just gorgeous! I swore that I'd never live "just of a highway" but after traveling my Mom's road (10 minute trip to a paved road and the 2nd pic) we both changed our minds a bit. We have a '99 Sporster and she'll appreciate it too! LOL
I'll be heading out there tomorrow. My sister and her family started cutting in the driveway today so I'm gonna go out and hopefully make myself useful. Can't wait until we get moved out there and get to do some more exploring. We've only gotten as far as the Cherokee Village/Highland area.
Do you go through Portia on your way out there? There's a great little Catfish house called Dairy King. I'll ask my Sis if she knows of any that are more local to us.
Hi Reivax!
Mimosa was the first thing I thought of when I first saw the flower but the plant itself was viney as opposed to being shrub/tree-like. We've been calling it the Pom Pom plant since the flowers look like pom poms.

I don't know what it is, but it's *everywhere*, including in my yard and rock drive.
If it's left unattended, it actually grows into a large tree. You'll see them as you go down the dirt roads.

No, I usually don't go through Portia. I come through Pocahontas, but there's some closer than that. We ate at one there on 62 near Cherokee Village. The fish was good, but the friendliness was missing. Might of been called King Catfish, judging by what I could find in the vicinity on Google Maps.
Are you guys building or was the house already there?

It *was*.
It's been closed for quite a while, Bull. The attitude and lack of service brought it down very shortly after new owners took it over. It just reopened as "Jenni's", but I haven't been there yet.
The most popular place for catfish is "Deep Creek", which is on 62/412 west. From the stoplight on the south end of the four lane, go west a little ways and watch the north side of the road. There's also a good hunting/fishin store there called "Sportsman's Edge".
Most places 'round here do catfish pretty good.

OK. It musta been Jenni's where we stopped. It was around the end of May. They weren't unfriendly. Just seemed a little distant. Could have been that they weren't very busy. The place was almost empty and the other table may have drawn all the attention as kinfolk.
I ran a family owned buffet style Catfish restaurant in Waxahachie, TX in 1991. We called it the Lazy Fisherman. It was my father's 5th one to build and operate. I took it over for him that year due to an illness in the family. It was teetering on bankruptcy due to interstate highway work that closed his exit for a couple of years. It seated 300 in two dining areas. We also served chicken, pork ribs and crab-legs among many other things.
I love to eat catfish!
