I have 2 other daughters that will be moving with me both in High school. One is in the high school band here in Cali and would like to find another high school that has a band too. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you could go wrong moving out of a place like California and having your kids in school in Jonesboro.

Default valley view band

Hi, my family just moved to Jonesboro 1.5 years ago,and I now have 2 kids in band at Valley View High School. This school is growing so quickly that they're continuing to build new buildings. All kids K-12 are on the same campus. My son is plays sax, and my daughter plays clarinet. Both are in varsity band. This past year was their first year as a marching band, with brand new uniforms, and a brand new co-director with 30 years experience at another district (which won many awards.) The band is really doing well and would welcome new kids with experience!!! I have heard that the Jonesboro High band is very, very good, but very, very big, also. I guess it just depends on what else you're looking for in a school. Valley View has been the #1 academic school in Arkansas for 4 years now, which is great. They built a brand new fine arts center 2 years ago, and that is where the band, choir and drama classrooms are, and where they all perform. We moved here from St. Louis, MO, from a very large school district, and my kids just love it here. I hope this gives you some insight!

Karen,

We just moved to Jonesboro from San Jose CA. As mentioned in the above replies Valley View is academically the best school. It is ranked number one is the state if I am not mistaken. It is small. I had my daughter in private school in CA, and Valley
View is a lot like a private school. Very one on one. The prinicpal is totally involved with the students. It is a very good idea to call and find out what classes are needed for graduation and work with them in advance. There are different graduation requirements here than in CA. But they will work with you and help make it happen. Jonesboro is a very nice city. People here think there are problems, but I doubt the problems are anything like CA cities. There is a newcomers club here that will help you tremendously with making friends and having activities. Costs here for EVERYTHING are much better than Ca. The only problem I have is that I am used to a more international atmosphere. There are no Indian, Korean places to eat. However it is only 50 minutes to Memphis and you can get almost anything there. They don't have good Italian sausage here or Sourdough bread. But that is only minor. Everyone is so friendly. This has been the greatest move for us. Hope to meet you when you move here.
