Default Moving to Jonesboro from Calif

I am considering a move from Cali to Jonesboro. Last summer I was there visiting my daughter and her new family in Lake City and really liked it there. I would like some information on Jonsboro High School or where I can get it on the web, housing ( renting for now ), and job information. I have 2 other daughters that will be moving with me both in High school. One is in the high school band here in Cali and would like to find another high school that has a band too. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
God Bless,

Karen

Jonesboro Public Schools

Valley View High School

the first one is for JPS, and the second is for the Valley View School District (which is the one Id recommend) and the third is Nettleton High School.

Nettleton High School

Lived around J-boro for 34 years..feel free to ask me any questions.

JHS link.... Jonesboro Public Schools

Your questions might be more easily answered if you gave a bit more information...what type of job you are looking for, what size house you want and what your budget would be. Besides JHS there is also Nettleton, Westside and Valley View. Their districts also cover areas of Jonesboro but are totally seperate from Jonesboro school district.

Nettleton High School
Valley View High School
++ Westside Consolidated School District No. 5 | Welcome!

I attended Nettleton, my H attended Jonesboro but if we were in Jonesboro now we might strongly consider Valley View instead.

CAButterfly--I cant answer too many questions about Jonesboro specifically but I can tell you that the people of Arkansas are some of the nicest people i have ever met! I go to the Ouachita Mountains as often as I can to fish/camp and see 3 of my grand children. Sometimes I just dont want to leave. If your kids/you are into outdoor recreation of any sort, you cant go wrong with northern/western Arkansas. Forgive me if i am wrong but i would imagine you would like to get away from Fresno! i lived in San Luis Obispo for 25+ years and went to Fresno alot and watched it kind of go down hill. Although you will, i am sure, miss Yosemite! Dont limit your search to Jonesboro. there are alot of wonderful places in Arkansas that would be great for you and your kids! Good Luck and God Bless!

I imagine all the high schools have bands for your daugters to join. I know JHS does for sure. Valley View is a very small school (10 years ago had graduating classes of around 60). JHS is fairly bigger (around 250 in the class back then). Nettleton is also big, and Westside was smaller (I think). VV and Westside were more rural.

Craighead is a dry county, and I think unfortunately, at least when I was growing up there, that led to a lot of teen problems. There was just nothing for teens to do in the city, therefore there was a lot of teen drug and alcohol use. I think there is more to do in town now though.

Valley View has grown almost to the size of Jonesboro High School now, and is considered one of the top schools in the region, academically, and Jonesboro has grown so much, Valley View is inside the city limits of Jonesboro. Westside is the only one thats not really "close" to Jonesboro now.

I lived in Jonesboro for 16 years prior to moving to Texas. Just moved here, so I still have pretty good insight into Jonesboro. My family and I loved Jonesboro, although it is not a perfect town. It has grown quite a bit, but it is the only town (besides Paragould) in East Arkansas that is growing. The mosquitoes are terrible and the humidity is high. Aside from that, a good place to live.

About schools, there are about 4 different school disctricts within the city limits. However, I believe that Jonesboro and Valley View are the better two. (I'm sure there are others that would disagree.) You weren't really specific as to requirements, but you did mention band for your daughters. If that is a big interest, I can tell you that Jonesboro High would be the school--hands down. They are constantly getting superior ratings. Academically, Valley View is probably slightly better, but diversity in the VV disrict is practically nihl.

Just to confirm what posters above said, ACADEMICALLY Valley View is probably the best school in Jonesboro now and it has grown in size dramatically over the past decade. OVERALL Jonesboro High is probably still the better school since it has a combination of diversity, good academics, and a wide variety of programs that are offered there. Nettleton reminds me of the typical poor school district in the Arkansas Delta and Westside schools are...ummmm redneckish. Definetly make sure that you reside in either the Jonesboro or Valley View school districts and you won't go wrong.
