When you want to take a country drive to see the most picturesque countryside in Arkansas for a few hours what roads or highways do you head to? Can you name some "secret" ones that may not be well known to tourists?

Highway 123 in particular the Sam's Throne area.

There are some country backroads around Gilbert that put you atop some of best overlooks around. I can't recall the names as we were guided there by a semi-local. Red Bluff was one that we found.

My favorite roads in Arkansas. Scenic 7, Harrison to I-40, and the Talihena trail, Mena to the end going west into Oklahoma.

Talamena is great, but I could spend many hours driving any of the dirt Ouachita National Forest back roads, and have done so on many, many of them.

any highway/road out of ponca or jasper is a great scenic drive, anytime of the year. you can always end your day's drive at the low gap cafe! (just did this a few weeks ago)

Now that you mention a Harley; As augiedogie posted, Scenic Arkansas Highway 7 (even out of Hot Springs), or Talamena drive (or however it's spelled) out of Mena would be hard to beat. Both are curvy with up and down runs. Enjoy The Natural State

Take Hwy. 23 North ("The Pig Trail" Scenic Byway) off of I40 at Ozark. Turn right on 215 at Cass (about 14 miles from I40), just after you cross the Mulberry River. 215 winds along the Mulberry for miles, with several canoeing access points and campgrounds along the way. Stop at the Redding campground and sit on the stone wall at the swimming hole and listen to the river swish by (and use the nice restrooms!). When you hit 103, go left to Oark, go in the Oark General Store, eat if you want to (I never much liked it, though), then go back to where you turned left but keep going straight on 103 and you will wind down the mountain into Clarksville, which is a neat little town with a nice downtown area and several flea markets/antique shops....as a matter of fact, one of my favorites is in a sprawling, old white schoolhouse building on W. Main, or Hwy. 64....just go west (turn right) when you hit 64 and look for the big, white-painted, old school building....going west, it's just a few buildings past the First Assembly of God Church. It's called Westside Flea Market. It's packed full of stuff, and the building is interesting also.

Of course, you can do this in reverse if you'd like. Beautiful, beautiful country.

I have a lot of H-D miles under my belt, a lot of them in Arkansas. You really can't go wrong as long as you stay in the Ozarks or Ouachitas.

My #1 favorite area is the area around Jasper. In fact check out the Hub (motorcycle resort) between Jasper and Harrison, it's on the Hwy 7 Spur where the old Dogpatch theme park entrance was. The owners, Randal and Debbie, are friends of mine and will take good care of you. Their place is nothing fancy at all, but the restaurant serves the best food in the area and the location can't be beat. They have some maps with favorite area roads mapped out.

Hwy 123 south of Mt Judea if you a challenging ride.
Hwy 7 south of Jasper, the Arkansas Grand Canyon
Hwy 123 near the Missouri border, the Peale ferry ride

Lots more great riding in that area.
