to determine living costs, there is a formula used called "heating degree days" that determines how much heating is needed for the entire yeat.
Lower numbers---less
higher numbers=more
Here are some readings for a few cities in both Arkansas and MO.
one can compare and draw ones own conclusions
Arkansas---Little Rock---3155
---Fort Smith--3478
---Fayetville---4141
Missouri---Springfield---4638
---Kansas City--5393

I'll have to agree that Springfield and Fayetteville aren't all that different in terms of weather.
It's an interesting formula, but what about the days when the air conditioner is needed?
In Little Rock, you go straight from needing a little heat in that fallwinterspring thingamajig they have, to needing the air on full blast.
If my memory isn't shot, while in LR, I believe that my utility bills in the summer were pretty much identical to the ones in the winter. Actually, that still holds true as I now live a good bit further north, where the winter is actually... winter. Also, the fall and spring each last about a month longer, making utilities quite a bit lower during those times.
I'm not trying to pick an argument, it's just that the formula makes it look as if Little Rock is dramatically cheaper on utilities than Kansas City. Having lived in both, that simply isn't the case, especially when you factor in the extra 2-3 months the air is needed/used in LR.

LOL, I personally would be pretty happy about that! I'm sick and tired of shoveling snow. I'm rather liking this "winter" down in LR.

Raised in Boone County, went to college and early career right there in Fayetteville, then took off to Maryland for career and have finally returned to the best state in the country. (IMO of course)
Maryland doesn't get always get a LOT of snow but it's a good deal more than NWA.

Well, I got more than a dusting. 5 inches at my house. Tried to go to work, but ended up off-road. My parents who live a little farther north got between 7 and 8 inches. A real snowstorm!
