Having experienced wonderful NE & Central AR last year, I'm already planning on coming back in '16 but with the idea of coming in from the east at Greenville MS and travelling west as far as Magnolia before heading north to LR. Is the Monticello, Magnolia line a good example of southern AR due to it's very distinct geography compared to the NE. I guess I'm obviously hoping to see a much flatter landscape and experience a different kind of "feel" in that part of the great State of Arkansas....

Crossing the Greenville bridge over the Mississippi is quite the experience, you'll come into cotton fields of the Lake Village area the follow HWY 82 through small Ashley County towns, into Hamburg, (stop and visit the town square), you can turn right onto 425 and go to Monticello or left and drive through Crossett, over what locals call "the dump" and over the Saline River and into El Dorado and on to Magnolia. You'll be in pine forests, river bottoms, rice and cotton fields. Narrow two lane state highways. Have fun!

If you stop in El Dorado or Magnolia you must have a spudnut. There is a store in either town.

It was suggested last year that I try Hush Puppies and Cat Fish for the first time, I did and loved 'em! Spudnuts are now top of my AR gastronomic delights list. Thanks for the nod!

Thanks Jim, will probably take on your suggested route. We're looking for exactly what you describe, which as I'm sure you will know is very different to what we discovered in the Ozarks of MO & AR. Intend to travel back up to LR after Magnolia, do you know anything about an old Confederate cemetery situated in Camden?

When I was growing up in El Dorado my dad's second cousin owned the Spudnut Shop. I have had quite a few in my day and get more when I am down there.
