It seems you are looking for the best of both worlds. If you want to live in a small, town with the beauty that goes with it and yet all the amenities of a major city. That is known as utopia and in the real world it doesn't exist. Eureka Springs is close enough to the larger cities that you can find just about anything you need within in a 30 minute or less time and still enjoy the wonders of a small, artsy, liberal life style. One thing you haven't mentioned: what about your job requirements, is this going to be an issue?

As for health food stores,, I am smiling as most do not think of Sprouts or Trader Joes as health food stores. They have great products and are wonderful but certainly not health food stores. To answer your question, nope, neither are here or near yet but one of these days we will see Trader Joe's I am sure. Close enough to Eureka Springs is Fresh Market and Whole foods, plus there are true health food grocery stores thoughout the NWA region. Of course they carry healthy price tags as well.

Music Scene - Yes, there is live music at multiple venues every night during the warm season. Chelsea's is the only place with live music every night during the cold months.

Apartments - The local newspapers have listings every week. If you're looking for a downtown apartment, expect to pay in the 600-800 range for a 1-2br small apartment. Holiday Island offers more affordable options in the 400 range.

Winter - As some said, it dies down a bit during the winter but activity has been on the up up the last few years. Ozark Mountain Music festival is held at the Basin Hotel each winter and is a lot of fun.

Walkability - If you live downtown, you will probably prefer to not drive anywhere. Parking is a bit of a nightmare and the meter maids can be relentless.

You will most likely fit right now, a lot of people move here from out of state(myself included). It is a pretty liberal area but it is also rural so also expect a lot of "hill people".
