We are flying into Memphis for a Little Rock wedding. I'm looking for a safe and clean hotel closer to the Memphis area to stay after a late flight before heading to Little Rock. Any suggestions? I've heard we should get out of Memphis after dark... Forest city perhaps?

During my "traveling days" I would always stay in a Holiday Inn on I-40 at Forest City. I don't know it's current status but at that time the area was quite safe and I would do my daily run after dark and never felt threatened. More than likely there other hotels in the area by now. So yes, I think Forest City will fit your needs. Have a safe trip.

The Holiday Inn in Forrest City unfortunately became pretty run down, I think it's been downgraded to a Days Inn now. There is a newer Holiday Inn Express that was pretty decent. Forrest City itself is kindof... unpleasant... but if you'd rather not drive all the way to Memphis that evening it's one of few options in that stretch of interstate.

Forrest City is pretty much it unless you want to drive a little further to Brinkley. There are a few hotels there but I don't know the brand or quality.

The only reason to get out of Memphis is to avoid rush hour traffic and/or how longer drive in the morning. Just stay at the one of the hotels near the airport you'll be fine ... otherwise there's nothing but low-end hotels until you get to Little Rock.

If you open Google Earth / Google Maps and zoom out until you have both the West edge of Memphis and East edge of Little Rock, put "hotels" in the search bar, the hotels will pop up. They will be Super 8, Metal 6, and other "no tell motel" type places.

You might also post this question in the Memphis and Little Rock sections of TripAdvisor.

And remember to check "drive Arkansas" website; there has been construction between Memphis and Little Rock that can add 0 to 1+ hours to the normal two hour trip
