Default population of NW Ark.

Does anyone know roughly the pop. of the metro area of Fayetteville?
I haven't been up there in 6-7 years and back then, there was some space between it and the surrounding towns.
Any information would be helpful.

Thanks!

From my understanding the population of Benton and Washington counties combined just surpassed 400,000. It has filled in a lot but there still is some space between the towns.

We were talking about this in class today--something about in the next 10-15 years being near 1 million in the whole NWA area.

Really, really big, in other words.

I sure hope not. IMO there are already way to many people here, I prefer the smaller towns, along with the small town feeling.

As do I. I think whoever was talking about it may have been referencing the reports that were coming out during the big boom.

Now that it has leveled off a bit, it may just grow up to around 550-650.

Many of the growth projections are based on the rate of growth during the peak of the boom in NWA. I think the growth will be slower but steady in the future. Wal-Mart can only keep creating jobs for so long before the economy will need to diversify in order to sustain the growth. NWA is running into infrastructure problems as well. Those small towns were never designed to become as big as they have.

Combining the two counties is a lot of miles. I don't think you will have to give up that small town feeling for many years. Believe me, for those who have lived or live in truely BIG cities this is nothing.

I kind of like the way NWA is right now. Not too big and not too small. A little of both. If it gets too that 1 million mark, then along comes all the big metro area problems. This area is nice but I dont think its made for that many people. Like someone else said, those projections are probably old and it probably wont get that big. Also, this area counts alot on Walmart and who is to say they will stay in the area forever.
