I just posted a long reply to both threads but the computer did somthing stupid and it was all deleted...anyway, to cut it short, I said I would not live in a conservative town re: Harrison; NO WAY! and that I had learned that Ar had a lovely mountainous area in the east of the state and beautiful scenery in the NW. Also that Memphis or Marion was the choice over WM...phew

The mountainous region is in the western part of the state (didnt know if that was a typo or what); Ozarks in the north and Ouchitas (pronounced Wa****as) below them. Theyre split by I-40 pretty much. You will regret a move to West Memphis... Marion or Memphis.

TN-Rox...thanks for your opinion regarding Marion, Memphis and West Memphis. Is there anywhere decent in that area to live then?
Lt. Dan, I've read since that the KKK are at Harrison...scary stuff! Australians in general aren't keen on Kiwis either!

FFS!!! Just because one guy who's a leader in that organization lives near Harrison does not mean the town is racist!!!! Bchris may have been through there a "lot" but I grew up there and while there isn't a whole lot to do and the primary weekend activity centers around church and football, I would seriously doubt that you'd EVER meet a KKK member if you moved there! The city of Harrison has officially and publicly disavowed it's past of racism.

Marion is probably the best place in Arkansas' side of the Memphis Metro. The surrounding areas of Memphis in TN are pretty good also (You wouldnt have to commute across that bridge!) well that is unless you are working in AR, then I would consider some outlying areas such as Cross County. I would definitely look at Memphis metro areas in TN or MS, AR's side is just not doing very well economically ('cept for Marion). Alot more decent areas in the M Metro in TN or MS...unless your heart is set on AR, then Marion is, by FAR, your best choice. Check out some of the forums on Memphis and outlying areas in TN and MS to get a better idea of the rest of the Metro, if you are even considering other areas.

Thanks for the information everyone. I have a fair idea what I may consider now and that is to stay in Australia...ONLY JOKING!
One thing I am curious about as well, are there any scary bears around the areas of WM, Memphis and Marion when it snows?
